Haven't been there since late 1990's, it's not close to me. But I went with a date who liked the place and it was crowed. Peanut shells about covered the floor and beer was sold by the Pitcher more often than glass - as it was at our table.

So I'm there saturday night when it should be busy here's what I see:

Fat Tuesdays: almost empty. a few younger guys (at least 1 wasn't young - middle age i'd bet), 1 girl i hardly saw my eyes aren't very good, 2 old men, and 4 young girls at a table i'm sure came in and left together - if they were of drinking age i'd be shocked. The place seemed smaller, as if it'd been cut in half to make room for a nail salon.


Fat? She's a bird starving to death it looks like to me.


Brion's Grille: 1/2 full but mostly or wholey TEACHERS drinking and eating. I could tell the teachers had had more to drink than the (students) at Fat Tuesdays. at least 1/3 of everyone there: well dressed silver hair driving luxury asian cars.


THE TEACHERS WERE MORE DRUNK and outnumber the students at University Mall.


The front of the mall had allot of cars parked but few coming and going - i only saw a few people exiting some awful burrito place.


One thing confused me: the back parking lot was nearly Full of high end cars but NO ONE was coming and going to cars*. All of the 3 food places were nearly empty (teacher excepted - separate lot too), most of the placed closed and closing up, the only think i can imagine was the Gym.

But I know gyms in my area: if there's a gym with allot of cars it necessarily means allot of foot traffic and people holding a gym bag or having wet hair.

So what were all the high end cars doing parked if there? (all newer, mostly asian luxury, etc)


(there was one guy in a thick white sweater wandering in the parking lot it seemed aimlessly alone in no direction. i say that because i've done it before when i was that age - likely for different reason). and one foreigner in a full black face mask - 1 of the same down the road - either black facemasks are on sale at univ. mall or terrorists are stalking near the campus at night?

so i google bars to see what's around. there's a small "hard times cafe" i didn't try going in to in the middle of the city. i decided it was likely just as scarce, couldn't see if there was any crowd and saw no people, so drove right by it. that's it. i think there are some other bars in the city. but i would think a mall having a "dive bar" and two nicer bar&grille and taco and groceriy store (for "supplies") would be at least as popular

i googled because my first thought was "they opened a gov own bar on campus so students were too lazy to leave campus". nope - not said on google maps.

SO MY GUESS IS: there are more teachers than students at GMU and they drink more than the students do. that's my observation ! (you see, i saw that with my eyes, it is not some opinion), and the town is WAY BORING

my only other guess is: students are gone (but many are domestic or don't leave), or on campus is some gov made places to hang out that don't show up on google maps (possible)

the new restaurant right near is a pho noodle asian one. lots of new development all small high quality townhouse. my guess is it's all asian money ... strangled fairfax of money from annandale now have taken over the place where fairfax people couldn't afford to build

it's all new asian housing (part commercial, usually illegal but asians get away with it)

BUT my point is: IT ISN'T NEW CAMPUS BUILDINGS.

they built asian housing for rich asians (likely all illegals sucking off gov accounting scams insurance scams)

the campus: the same damn size it was 40 years ago (minus a few added small student apartment room buildings added ?20 30 yr ago).

What had been a medium size campus 40 yr ago is now a SMALL campus comparably that hasn't grown even a little.

Fairfax Cities new plan to the area is to build a 825 unit dorm in the middle of Fairfax City with a bus that runs every hour to GMU. LMAO!!!

Merchants think the college students will walk to all the places nearby and spend their money. Good luck with that. University Mall businesses are close to campus and only the campus has done is offer student a place to get their car towed from.

your job as a student is to learn

if you didn't learn that you can sue police for doing that, then you failed to learn

A bit over a year ago, I had dinner at George's which is also at the University Mall. It was on a Friday night and the burger was actually quite good. The happy hour section in the front of the restaurant was actually quite full. Lots of people in suits, etc. I suspected they were mostly lawyers and legal personnel from the court system - just a few miles up Rt. 123. George's had lots of beer variations available. I suspect the higher end Asian automobiles you saw at the back of the mall's parking lot could have been from people at George's. But, just a suspicion.

I've only been there that one time, so I can't say whether it's better or worse than my experience there a bit over a year ago.

Why would you expect to see large numbers of students there during a school holiday?

nvcc annadale: ~ 20k students, gmu: ~ 35k students. gmu was private is now wholey gov funded but has "profiteers". nvcc (state school) has grown to 76k by adding campuses. gmu has added nothing (except student housing rooms back in 1990's) and a large sports field and indoor sport facility now often empty that gov promised "would attract enrollment" (we know instead they built asian housing and advertised to illegal alien that loan programs were available for illegal aliens - a previous ffu article infact). that sports field could have been a full campus, lab rooms, student housing, etc. gmu's name is no better known today that it was before "due to sports".

IN FACT - some of the asian housing appears to be built on what was school grounds. there's a whole housing development built between the campus and "west campus" just south of the field - but the field and parking wrap around.

asians built housing using gov money on the school grounds of a school that HAD BEEN a privately owned school

i'm sure the accountants have covered it all up well and students are told "it was always that way"

No, but thanks for the suggestion. I live in Tysons but I get out to Chantilly once every month or two, and I'll look them up next time I'm out there. I miss good tacos and good Tex-Mex (or even New Mexico-Mex) in this area.

A college bar (chopped in 1/2 by remodeling) on Saturday 8 PM new years weekend: should have had more than "a few stragglers" who were drinking less than the teachers at the bar&grill 1/2 block down

No one goes to Fat Tuesday's because they "don't" show NFL games any more and the only folks that are in there drink heavily enough to keep the lights on because they are there every day. Fat Tuesday's does show football again though. They caved but didn't say anything about it after all the publicity they got for banning it from being shown there. They may not have the NFL Ticket anymore, but they show games on the local channels/cable.

Probably aren't too many university students there if they're on break from college for the winter holidays.

People park their high end Asian cars in that back lot when they take their kids to the movie theater. What movies are playing at University Town Center?

Upon notifying the bar I am a barista of Patch and will write a review the bars didn't give me my free drink.

i thought of that. i applied for work interviewed at a theater in chantilly: it had near zero attendance and i've heard theaters are doing poorly.

i just didn't think a small theater might have filled a whole lot nearly full. (in the 80's 90's surely, twenty teens - i've never seen it)

interviewed at a theater in chantilly. they didn't choose me. but i was going to ask for good money because xxx and because they'd had 2 dead people show up on theater grounds in just 2 years. (not incl chantilly pond, not including)
