Buying a classic truck or jeep

I am thinking about buying a classic truck or jeep. Anyone know a place locally that might have them?

There's no profits to be made here in NOVA restoring classic vehicles and then re-selling them. And certainly not something as niche as trucks and/or Jeeps. Keep your eye on the Internet and if you're buying used 4WD/AWD even a classic, go ahead and add a new transfer case, axle shafts and seals to your final price. Maybe it won't need it but, better to budget for those repairs in advance and then not need them and be left with a little cash left over.

Avoid buying any used vehicle without a third party inspection (which you as the buyer should pay for). Any seller that discourages this or forbids this (and that's their right)...just walk away and look elsewhere.

Classic Jeeps and trucks don't have computers or air bags. And, you would have to pump up your own air bag quickly if you're about to be in an accident. Hope you can do your own work, too. You ever done a brake job, exhaust, ball joints, etc.? If not, you ought to just get a new vehicle, go to car shows and look.

Get a D110. There are several 25 yr.+ imports from the UK and Spain that are built like tanks and can drive forever. A very iconic vehicle that undercuts the overpriced NA spec Defenders originally sold from 94-97.

You may want to look around south in Richmond and further. Most people in the DC area are morons when it comes to cars; especially older ones. Also the further south from the salt belt, the better.

Try ebay for old trucks in the deep south. Get a`WWII Jeep - They are fun to drive, easy to repair, and parts are easy to get.

Good Luck

I really want an old school muscle car but have nowhere other than the street to park it, damn HOA.

One more year then I can move to where there is no HOA and I have plenty of room to park it then get my car...one more year!!!!!

Do it. They're a blast. Just keep it out of rush hour if it's a slow truck.

This dealership is out in Purcellville.

Thanks for all the tips! Great ones. I think you're right about finding one elsewhere. Funny thing is we did see a truck we liked Saturday at the car lot listed above in Purcelville. No one there just a website name and the price was listed there. Might wait but we do go to car shows and check any out for sale there. I love going to car shows! Makes me go back in time. We had lots of mustangs growing up. they used to call us the mustang family. Then trans ams. Lol

OTOH many older jeeps and trucks can be quite resilient in crashes, and can be easy to work on too. Imagine a vehicle where everything that needed to be serviced could be easily accessed.

You may also consider heading to one of the events up at Carlisle. There are always many cool cars in the car corral for sale.
