Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I was a U.S. exchange student and lived in London, England from 8/81 til 6/82. At the end of finals, right before Christmas, a bunch of friends dragged me to see this band that I had never heard of called the "The Southern Death Cult". I tried to get out of it as I was much more into wanting to see the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Ozzy or The Who etc.etc. Anyway they said they were playing at the Marquee Club. This piqued my interest as I had heard that the Stones had played some legendary gig's at the Marquee Club. In my teenage mind I was thinking "holy shit maybe I had better check this out!". After consuming many bottles of rot gut fortified wine and swallowing small handfuls of over the counter amphetamine pills, we were on our way. I wish I could say it was the best concert I ever saw but unfortunately I spent most of it puking my guts out in the bog.MANY years later I found out that this band had later changed it's name to "The Cult".
I was a stoner and was trying to steal gas for my car off Edsal n commercial drive. Summer of 1998. I rolled up on a school called “Chesapeake” something.
Guy surprised us as we were trying to siphon gas from a 12 passenger van at this school. My two criminal friends bolted off in a split second and I was too stoned to react. I had no criminal record, only speeding tickets. I was 16. Guy asked me not to run. He asked me how much gas do I need/was I stranded off 395. I just said I was stealing gas just to steal gas. We talked for about 20 mins about his thoughts on why I’m doing this shit at 3am. Who my friends are etc. He explained the slippery slope of drugs and poor friend choices.
Thanked him for not calling the police and my fear turned into shame.
Went home.
Turns out the school is based on Scientology principles. Don’t think it’s still open, but I will never forget that night.
Some may see it as a cult, but that man changed my thoughts that night.
There was this Flavor-Aide drinking that cult would gather under the Bunnyman Bridge and eat soup in a weird ritual. Eventually they went to Guyana and killed themselves and a senator.
