The backwards thinking is that tolls are user-fees, and it’s fair for users to foot the bill. The problem is that users are far from being the only ones who benefit, and tolls give the other guy a free ride.

It also opens up the vendor selection process to graft, corruption and personal, illegal gain. All of which are trademarks of the GOP.

What? You think TransUrban was chosen as the vendor on the 495 and 395 and 95 Express Lanes because they submitted a proposal free of spelling mistakes.

No, the reason TransUrban, an Australian company, was chosen instead of a Virginia-based or even an American-based company I'd because TransUrban took all of the political decision makers on an extended all-expenses paid fishing trip to the Great Barrier Reef.
