Prominent families have moved back to DC (...and send kids to private schools, if still applicable).
Unlike Montgomery County, Fairfax has become associated with the typical negative stereotype of suburban life (on steroids) with unsophisticated, astonishingly ignorant people. Have you ever enjoyed a dinner party here with intelligent conversation about politics, the economy, world affairs? No? Usually it's a gathering of ignoramuses talking (lying/gossiping) about other people and their kids, usually lead by angry, frustrated PTA-associated, tedious jealous loud-mouth and unaccomplished/unskilled) women. Our standard inside joke-question: what kind of dog do you walk?
We live here, and when our kids graduate HS, we are gone - back to DC like most of our other normal and interesting friends and work colleagues. (And I don't care if you miss me -- so save the "witty" insults -- I will not miss you either.) I was nice... before I moved here. You know what they say, "When in Rome (or Vienna/Oakton)..."
The stark lack of names listed here is a manifestation of the toxic environment known as Fairfax. However, I agree, the Mars family(s) are lovely people. And they do have nice parties with other kind people. A true refuge from you...
