Lets face it there are lots of white people in this area from other states who are scared of people of color which is sad because it did not used to be that way around here in the 60s and 70s.

If something like this happened to me I'd be afraid of my reaction - the rage would be total. Since it was a group attack, I'd essentially lose it - not be concerned (as I would normally) of permanently hurting someone, even a female kid, to save myself.

On the video no one tried to help the victim or call the police. The two kids were beating him up and other metro riders got on their cell phones to record what was going on. This is sad! I must say that the other people around the victim were black and kids beating the man were black. DC is ghetto! I never ride the metro and never will. Fuck DC.

Possible internet toughguy alert: I've been swarmed by a pack of kids before while travelling. It's a scary thing to be jumped. You are caught off guard, and as this poor dude found out... No-one's gonna help.
If this ever happens to you, deal with these the same way you do with the swarming kids they have in Italy and Greece: GO FUCKING MENTAL. First thing with a swarm is to use the lead attacker to block the others. Keep positioning yourself to have that one person between you and the others. (Kind of like hiding behind a pole). This keeps you to a 1-on-1 as much as possible. I'm not a super good fighter or trained at all, but I do remember that bit of advice from damn near any martial arts class I've ever taken. Now if you can, RUIN that front kid. No joke. Go fucking mental and be relentless. Knock some teeth out, break an arm, flatten a nose. Kids in a group can be deadly, but they are still kids and will run away from a crazy rager. If you manage to gain the upper hand, you only need to detain one. They will give up the names of who else was there.

I'm not a frequent Metro rider, but I've NEVER seen Metro security agent anywhere except for inside that little both or over by the ticket machines. Not on the platforms, not outside, nowhere where bad shit can go down.

It is sad that people are being attacked on the metro rails. Kids now days have no respect for their elders. We all need to step up and whoop their *** in events like this. We have to step up do our parts because as other people have stated. Let it be me, I am not going to take age into consideration. I am kicking *** first and taking names later. Those girls would have been snoring by the time someone came to address the incident. Bottom line period. Dont stand by and just watch people because you would want someone to help you if it were you.

I saw a fight at L'enfant Plaza metro a week or so before Christmas. Same deal as this one, a bunch of black kids, but they were attacking and fucking with an older black gentleman who appeared to be on his way home from work. Everyone else ran away and stared. I think a lot of people were thinking someone was going to whip out a gun so they all ran. I was down the platform a little bit and by the time I figured out what was going on, the little fuckers hopped the green line train to Branch Ave (go figure). I didn't call the cops because them man being attacked disappeared.

I have my grandfather's WW2 bayonet which is still in very good condition, good enough to take down at least one person back in the day. A collapsable baton would be good for travel, plus you could be ironic and chant Rodney King over and over as you beat the perp to the ground.

It is not that hard to put in a very robust surveillance system in Metro. The cameras they have now obviously don't do much. Look at the British they have biometrics everywhere. Put in some good pan tilt zoom dome cameras and huge signs that everything is recorded.
Maybe metro transit could spend less time writing tickets outside metro stations (though there are a lot of cars stolen from metro lots). I think they need to expand that force big time and add a more robust camera system there.

From everything I've read there weren't just two teenyboppers involved here, but maybe a half dozen or more (the rest standing around recording the action). It would be fairly easy to defend against a couple kids but essentially impossible to defend against 6 or more, even for the toughest Internet Tough Guy. I have been on the metro many times and was staying at the waterfront for awhile. The kids would always look at my computer bag a go they sure would like to have it. After that i made sure that I took a different way home everyday because I knew they were clocking me. Also I have seen these same group of welfare getto mamma off springs trow rocks at peoples car. One day they are going to do it to the wrong brother and they will get sprayed down. If not they are surly to show up at The Lamb Center so they can harasser the local business owners like the other trash that is coming out of DC and was mentioned in the Washington Post recently.

BTW, I would strongly discourage anyone from carrying weapons in DC. DC has a generic "any other dangerous weapons" clause which makes it so they can charge you with possession of a dangerous weapon for just about anything. While the statute specifically refers to knives over 3", using the "or any other dangerous weapon" clause, DC police have charged people with everything from possession of a hammer to a flower pot to a flip flop.
DC police often don't take self-defense into account. They seem to have an approach of "arrest and charge them all, let the court sort it out."

We need a cop at every station. We also need some cops on the trains. If not all of that ride the metro are going to have to carry something to protect ourselves.

On Saturday I was on the Green Line returning from Branch Ave (National Harbor). 2 stops after we started out , a group of 15-20 kids aged 10-17 get on the train and begin going totally crazy. They were jumping over seats and tearing posters off the walls. Then, they turned on me. I was beaten unconsious. I had to spend the night in the hospital and get 4 stiches above my eye. I have a concussion and intense neck pain and headaches.
It took 10 minutes for the station manager to respond and all he did was bring me dirty looking paper towels. When the police and then EMS finally arrived, it was almost impossible to get me out of the station because the elevator wasn't working.
This is totally unforgiveable. I am calling a lawyer tomorrow and plan on filing suit against someone.
