White Ex-Navy sailor is sentenced to more than 32 years for sex crimes against a child younger than 13
A former US Navy sailor has been sentenced to more than 32 years in prison for sex crimes against a child.
Matthew McMeans, 27, pleaded guilty last October to rape and use of a computer to commit sex offenses with a minor under the age of 13, among other charges.
WAVY-TV reports McMeans was sentenced on Tuesday to 90 years in prison with all but 32 years and six months suspended.
The Virginian-Pilot cites court documents that say he knocked on the minor's window in May 2015 and invited her to his home.
She declined so McMeans had her lean out of the window to 'engage in sexual contact.'
He also reached out at least once via Snapchat and repeatedly abused the minor sexually.
McMeans was arrested in January 2017 after the victim told police about the abuse, which she claimed began in May 2015 and continued through the summer of that year.
A year later, McMeans ran into the girl at a Fourth of July party and again engaged in sexual contact with her.
Then in late January 2017, a day before McMeans was arrested, the girl said the former sailor sent her photos of his genitals via Facebook Messenger, discussed the prior abuse and invited her over to his house for sexual acts.
When he asked the girl to send him nude photos of herself, a family member contacted authorities, which lead to McMeans’ arrest on January 28.
During an interview with a detective the following day, the man corroborated the victim's version of events.
Prior to his arrest, McMeans had served as Navy Fire Controlman 2nd Class.
