This isn't about disrespecting veterans, so cut the crap. This is about refusing to participate in a ceremony. It is about speaking out against what they perceive to be an injustice that is happening to OTHERS, not themselves personally.

There are only a couple of reasons why this form of protest has any effect whatsoever. The first is for the past 37 years conservatives have followed a course of action where they first have tried to monopolize this country and its rituals and symbols as their own, and then force everyone to participate in those rituals and honor those symbols. The second is that whenever anyone fails to do so, conservatives have salivated at the opportunity to assail those individuals for being un-American.

The "take a knee" crowd has taken your playbook and used it against you. Your eagerness to call players out for not participating in rituals the way you want is working to their advantage. It is giving them more publicity to present their arguments than if you just sat quietly. THAT IS WHAT REALLY IS PISSING YOU OFF.
