Go out and get your bread, milk, and toilet paper!

Looks like our chances of seeing a few inches of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday and are getting better!

High chance of getting 4"+ according to the NWS: http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/wwd/day3_psnow_gt_04.gif

Yeah, you don't want to fuck around and let all the good ones get taken.

That's right! All the good ditches will go fast once the flurries start.

And don't forget: as long as you drive an SUV, you can drive as fast as you want, no matter how bad the roads are. Your SUV was engineered to never skid or spin its tires, so there is no reason to slow down or drive more cautiously.

Only if you talk on your cell phone. The radiation emitted from your phone while talking helps the tires grip the road better.

This forecast is a lot different that what Accuweather is showing for Tuesday and Wednesday. Their prediction is flurries with possible accumulation up to an inch.

Every Party has a Pooper, Tom Madison, and today you are the one. And no matter how much snow we get the Pooper will be a steamer since it is so darn cold.

Oh No It's Going to Snow? Time to go into "Fairfax Squirrel" mode.

DO NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL AFTER 6PM ON MONDAY!!!

Then:

1) Go directly to Home Depot and get some rock salt and a shovel. Throw a
tantrum in the store if they're out of anything.

2) Go to a supermarket and buy enough food for a month. Be ready to fight
over bottled water, bread, milk, and eggs. (CCW Permit optional)

3) Stock up at Blockbusters and again, be prepared to jump all over the
clerks if they dont have what you want.

4) On Tuesday morning, do not leave for work early. That way you can
complain every inch of the way and have a good excuse for being late.

5) If the Government is closed, go straight to the malls and spend the
day laughing at those poor people who have to work. Malls are always
packed when the Feds are closed because they are deliberately built
in areas where snow does not affect the roads. Roads to workplaces are
always impassable.

One time I was caught in a blizzard out west where I was stuck in my house for four days and the National Guard was called in to do rescues.

I will let you know that I didn't run like an idiot to the store ahead of time. Still, I didn't run out of toilet paper or some suitable substitute to wipe my ass (Kleenex or, worst case scenario, paper towels). And as for milk, while I didn't have kids at the time, my kids could drink fucking water for a few days.

As it turned out, by the end of the second day I was able to hike to a nearby convenience store to buy a Chipwhich.

Having gone through this kind of thing, the amount of panic over a few inches of snow is absurd.

An inch is enough to shut this entire area down for a day and send people into a panic. So don't worry, it should be a fun day for all.

I typically don't care about snow, but I have a meeting in Richmond on Wednesday morning that took me six weeks to schedule and I hadn't planned on driving down the night before just to make sure that I get there.

Lucky you! You can bring back a whole carload full of bread, milk, and toilet paper from Richmond, as that is far enough south that there are no winter weather advisories, and no one will be panicking. I recommend that you start taking bids for these scarce commodities imported from Richmond at once!

The beautiful thing about this is that its due to snow on a "teacher work day" (aka, no school). So now we can listen to al 15,000 FCPS teachers bitch and get their panties in a wad over how it snowed on an "off day".

This is Washington, where the weather is a guess, and if you wait a minute, it will change.

I remember one year when the weather guessers predicted a 10% chance of up to 4 inches of snow. We got 21 inches in two back-to-back snowfalls.

But that was before "global warming"

I also remember them (all 3 TV News Stations) predicting 6+ inches, they closed schools across the county the next day and then,... nothing. Nada. Didn't develop like they said it was supposed to. This was only a few years ago, too (10 or so).

And then they said they "had" to close schools because they couldn't get the school buses started in the cold weather. LOL

Its not the weather that hurts Northern Virginian's its the panic, and subsequent stupidity.

The local media is loving the ratings. They can get away with saying "some area's could get 6+ inches, check back at 9 for your full forecast!"

some areas = blue ridge mnts & mall parking lots after they've been plowed -- faster, and more efficiently than any road in order to get everyone who's not in school or work.

You also got the people from the south who have no idea what snow is like, and people from the north who regularly drive in a foot of snow. Put both groups on a three-lane interstate with half an inch of snow, set the speed limit at 55, and make them late to work. It's a recipe for disaster.

I think that was the 2000/01 winter. People actually called in to the TV stations to bitch out the weather man because they had gone out and bought all this bread, milk and toilet paper for nothing.

No joke. I knew about 6 different people who actually said they had called and complained, and most of them were upset that they had run out to the store and stocked up on things. They were all either new to the area or typical dumb blond chick types.

I think one station even mentioned the flood of calls a few days later.

Plus you have people that can barely drive in clear weather, and the people that believe 4 wheel drive means you can stop on ice, and all the people who don't know how to operate a vehicle without using a cell phone, and the people who only clear off a small circle on their windshield, and the people who leave 3 feet of snow on the roof of their car.

I guess it sorta makes sense that this area is crippled anytime more than a light dusting occurs.

I'd like to give a quick shout out to the stupid old fucking pus-bag driving down the FFX Parkway this morning going South torward Backlick Road. When there are patches of light snow and black ice on the road, that is not the time to drive in the left lane with your interior lights on WHILE YOU TEXT MESSAGE! YOU FUCKING WATERHEAD! I'm just releived I was able to pull up next to you and let you know just how I felt about that. And although you agreed with me in the end that you're far too old to be that goddamn stupid and reckless, and you did put the phone down and focus on the road, I'm still in awe. Please, get a clue and turn in your license before you kill somebody....or I just pull you out of your white PT Cruiser and beat you to death with your own shoe.

You should have gotten in front of her and then stopped real fast to avoid hitting that little bunny that was running across the road.

But I guess the only problem with that is it would fuck up your car, and she'd probably only have minor damage on her car.

Why do people like that seem to make it through life blissfully unaware of the danger they put themselves in, and never seem to suffer the consequences of their stupidity?

If its any consolation, one of your major gripes has been dealt with in the General Assembly. Drivers may no longer use hand held cell phones.

I'd like to see the ear buds banned too, but this seems to be the best concession the GA can make. The hand helds are definitely a distraction and hinder physical control of the vehicle. The "conversation" however can be equally distracting. I've seen more than a few "bud" cell phone drivers become quite animated as they carry on a coversation - so much so that they lose focus of their primary responsibility - operating a motor vehicle

http://www.iii.org/media/hottopics/insurance/cellphones/
Motorists who use cellphones while driving are four times as likely to get into crashes serious enough to injure themselves, according to a study of drivers in Perth, Australia, conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The results, published in July 2005, suggest that banning hand-held phone use will not necessarily improve safety if drivers simply switch to hand-free phones. The study found that injury crash risk didn't vary with type of phone.

Many studies have shown that using hand-held cellphones while driving can constitute a hazardous distraction. However, the theory that hands-free sets are safer has been challenged by the findings of several studies. A study from researchers at the University of Utah, published in the summer 2006 issue of Human Factors, the quarterly journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, concludes that talking on a cellphone while driving is as dangerous as driving drunk, even if the phone is a hands-free model. An earlier study by researchers at the university found that motorists who talked on hands-free cellphones were 18 percent slower in braking and took 17 percent longer to regain the speed they lost when they braked.

I didn't even bother driving to the office today, figured its just easier to handle a few emails from home and call in to meetings. I just didn't feel like dealing with dumbfucks going to and from the office in this weather.

Sidenote - there is 1 speedbump on the street in my neighborhood that A LOT of people are forgetting about and watching them nail it while leaving, his hilarious. Any snow that was on the car, is bounced off. I can only imagine what its like if they're holding a coffee cup. LOL

If you hate the bottom of your car with an unholy passion, drive in RESton's neighborhood. The speedbumps there have angry sex with your undercarriage if you go over them faster than .02 mph.

I would have loved to bear witness to people hitting those things this morning.

Dude, seriously, I have no idea how the morons who run my neighborhood thought those humps were a good idea. They were not there when we moved in, and then one day, there are no less than five of them between my house and the only entrance to my hood. Two simple speed BUMPS were in place before and worked fine. It's the thing that makes me dislike my hood the most.

Everytime I went over one and felt the spine-jarring "THUMP" as my undercarriage collided with unforgiving concrete, I almost got a complex thinking, "Am I too fat or something?"

Then I yelled at the girl I was with and told her she needed to lose some goddamn weight. But inside, I cried.
