Because people are tired of the BS where school doesn't end until the last week in June.

The last day of school is scheduled for June 15th.

My sister's children get out of school on May 19th, and the spend 2 weeks over Memorial Day at OBX

One more week of test prep before the SOLs. Teacher's pay raises are tied to those test scores so whatever will raise the scores is good.

Fairfax County averaged enough snow days over a certain period of years to qualify for a waiver from the state law know unofficially as the "Kings Dominion Relief Act" or the "Busch Gardens Relief Act." State law prohibits public school systems from starting school before Labor Day unless they average a certain number of snow days over a certain number of years. The law benefits the tourism industry but has no educational benefit.

Obviously not an educator, because that is a complete lie. Test scores are in no way tied to raises in Fairfax County.

Because the parents demanded that extra week of babysitting that all our tax dollars pay for.

Correct. SOL scores have nothing to do with a teacher's raise.

You mean to tell me teacher performance has nothing to do with raises?

They have a union, of course performance has no correlation with pay.

They just watch movies after SOLs anyways; might as well have more study time and less fluff.

Remember wondering why FCPS was closing for ridiculously little snow or no snow at all in recent years? Now you know why.

For years the idiots who run the school system have wanted to get school started before Labor Day, but they were stymied by state law.

Polling has shown that parents don't want school to start before Labor Day, but if there's one thing the educrat lobby has shown, they don't give a damn about what parents think.

Anyway, by running up the tally of snow days over a sustained period of time, they were able to trigger the waiver provision under state law. And voila, they get their hands on your children before Labor Day.

Yes, you dumb fuck. Virginia is a right to work state. Unions have no negotiating power. Raises are based solely on experience. There is no connection to student performance.

Parents don't want it because they want their cheap vacation rentals the final week of August. They have no educational justification being against it other than inconvenience.

Thousands of high schools kids in FCPS take AP and IB exams that are given simultaneously across the country in May. By starting as late at FCPS did, they were putting those kids two and three weeks behind their counterparts. This allows teachers more time to prepare and have less wasted time afterwards.

Then move to the same school system. And if you really like water, then try South West Texas. Quit being a whinny bitch.
Be happy you live in a County with a excellent school system.

VA's King's Dominion Law is one of the stupidest on the books. Have you seen the crowd there the last few years? I would be afraid my kids would get herpes in the waterpark area. They had been losing a month of summer so that ghetto infestation would make more $$$.

Fauquier went back on August 16th.
Manassas returned on August 28th.
Washington, DC returns on September 6th.

The lack of coordination around this area is astounding!

#1 "a teacher's union" (unionized gov workers) is ILLEGAL but is run by niggas in DC. it's illegal but being done

#2 they fire teachers who don't join the union or simply don't hire them

democrats are people who are using tax money to vote for their own pay raises

if you think that money machine is "optional", that democrats don't care if you join, than go back to your night job at 7-11
