We as public safety officers know what tint too dark for the highways in Virginia, and a Uniform Traffic Summons will be issued for each violation found.
The property can also be impounded if the officer fears for public safety.

Forget CA Tint, you want to go to TintFX next to Ted Britt Ford in Fairfax, City.
These guys are good and quick, they do this on an appointment basis and will get you in and out quickly.
As for tint levels, if you get the DMV Window Shading Waiver signed off by a Doctor, you are fine. You may get hassled from time to time, but the registration will have "Sun shading" printed on the lower part of the registration.
I do a lot of distance driving and the my skin is super sensitive to the sun. I even have the windshield tinted because I would fry if I did not have long sleeves.

I had one car tinted at CA Tint, not real happy with the outcome. A lot of small bubbles behind the tint and the guy used talc powder that some ended up under the tint. Also a bit expensive for the quality and it took this guy a long time to get the car done.
Had other work done at TintFX and they do much better quality work, throw 2-3 guys on the car and it is in and out much faster. No bubbles or talc powder.

I want to tint my black car since the black leather interior gets hot in summer- to LEGAL VA tint-----
...but with the overzealous police around Ffx, I am afraid I will get pulled over for it anyway and have to take the day off to go to court, fight it, etc etc to get dismissed. Which wastes my time and money having to come to court with it.

If you get your car windows tinted within the VA limits for operators without a Medical Waiver, while you could get pulled over for tinted windows, the police typically carry a tint meter that they slip over the top of the window to measure the tint percentage.
If you are within the legal limits, they cannot and should not ticket you.
BUT, if you seem to be giving them a reason to target you, they may find something else to hassle and ticket you for.
Do not be a jack ass if you are pulled over, you will have fewer issues with the LEO.

I have had full 35% tint on all my cars and have never been bothered, the only illegal part is my two front windows which are supposed to be 50%. Just don't go darker than 35% and you will be fine. You can probably get away with a 70% on the windshield if you wanted.
