The lesson in this post is to always have a dashcam! Don't be cheap and get that bullshit pilot one from Walmart! Get a $120-$150 from a high rated amazon seller.
Get get get the service warranty too. Nowadays that's the ONLY way to get attention from manufacturer.
Take it off the windshield EVERY TIME YOU PARK, or it will have a 3-4month life.

One recent development in my 80+hrs a week driving for/with UBER....is that the muthafuka tailgating you is not the mullet sporting construction guy anymore-it's a 18-22 year old FEMALE! Have you noticed that young women have become really dangerous drivers? You look over at them as they cross that SOLID line(kills me!) coming up to a red light, and you look over, and it's a baby faced female! I know they want equality in the world-BUT ROAD RAGE EQUALITY TOO????

Only problem with gopros is the battery life, most people just use it for their commute a d charge it when done.
Someone is far more likely to break in to your car if you left a GoPro on the dash over a regular dashcam...

Someone is more likely to break in to your car to steal it is being used as a measure of why it's good to have or to prove it's expensive? Sounds like another failed argument for GoPro from someone who doesn't know much about dashcams. Quality and more expensive dashcams are discrete and take up minimal space.
Let's see a few other reasons a real dashcam is better:
* 2 channel systems for front and rear recording
* parking mode / shock sensors for when not driving
* built in safety systems to cut power to camera is battery is getting low
* designs for being wired directly to vehicle's fuse panel
The gopros vary from model to model and year to year so listing the further negatives of them would depend on the model. Likely poor night recording, possible field of view, and looping options being major issues with the camera.
