New Flight Path for National and/or Dulles Airport

We live in South Run and since June 1 we have noticed a lot more airplane noise than usual. It starts around 6:30am and continues most of the day. It doesn't happen everyday, so it may be dependent on the runways being used at the airport, but the noise was never this loud before. Does anyone know, did the FAA recently change the flight paths for National or Dulles?

Download the FlightAware app and check it out when you hear noise, it will show you a pretty updated map view of where planes are. I just looked at it a few minutes ago and it showed a Southwest departure out of National turning west over Burke. Heading to Saint Louie. Looks like they take off from runway 19, head south along the river then turn to the west heading right over your area.

Yes, we changed them on June 1. We will be changing them again in 6 years per our policies.

Once a plane has been handed off from Departure and Tower Control, a pilot may opt to request a direction modification. This may be what you have observed in Burke. Some pilots agressively seek to avoid congested flight lanes.

Burke is the fly over enclave of Fairfax County. Fer Chris sake, there's a goddamned train track running through the middle.
