Started a new thread so as not to attach to the racist rant (warranted, or not).
The incident happened Friday at approx. 6p. The article is dated the Monday after. I’m not sure if this was reported on the evening news or in any other local newspaper Friday evening or over the weekend.
WTOP posted the victims address in the initial release and later retracted it. Probably days later.
From the link above: "According to Metro Transit police, there were 33 aggravated assaults in the first four months of 2017, 16 fewer than during the first four months of 2016.” Once every 3-4 days versus once every 2-3 days. Things are improving? Perhaps it’s a typo that Metro Transit Police are quoted as saying there is no need to be concerned about their safety. If an accurate quote, that statement alone is newsworthy.
A google search to find a link to the article posted in a separate thread resulted in a list of aggravated assaults reported.
___________
Aggravated assault is an attempt to cause serious bodily injury to another or to cause serious bodily injury purposely, knowingly or recklessly, with an extreme indifference to the value of human life.
[google it]
Aggravated assault is an assault which criminal laws punish more severely due to its seriousness. Factors which raise an assault to an aggravated assault typically include the use of a weapon, the status of the victim, the intent of the perpetrator, and the degree of injury caused. Assaults that happen in the victim's home can also qualify as an aggravated assault.
States classify certain assaults as aggravated assault under their criminal codes. They may also use more specific names such as assault with a deadly weapon. Often, aggravated assaults qualify as felonies, while simple assaults can be misdemeanors. Many states have multiple degrees of criminal charges for aggravated assault.
