so we can retire after just 5 years at fcps? Was is the catch? I might apply for an Teacher aid and retire after 5 years

Can you retire after 5 years? You'll be vested after 5 years and you will be able to retire, but your benefit will be something like $8 a month.

FCPS has (well, had) a very nice retirement system, but to truly get the big payoff you have to stay in for the full 30 years. Very few folks do, and the payout after 26 years or 27 years is nice, but maybe 60% of what you get if you stay to the full 30.
