Mount Vernon Police District – Two officers were proactively patrolling on foot in the 7900 block of Audubon Avenue on Monday, March 27. Around 11:30 p.m., they came across a group of people who appeared to be drinking beer. As they approached to investigate, one man turned and ran. As he fled, officers saw him throw something into nearby bushes. The suspect was caught and arrested. A K9 team responded, searched for the discarded object and discovered the object was a handgun.

Michael S. Andino, 25, of Alexandria, was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, resisting arrest, trespassing, littering and open container of alcoholic beverages in a public place. The officers’ investigation also revealed Andino is an affiliated gang member.
