ryan care may have taken one of Trump's biggest enemies down and the door is now open to TRUE good healthcare

single payer for all which would be an extension of medicare for ALL americans would be the establishment nightmare....basically, healthcare dollars get focused on doctors and insurance companies get their profits made reasonable down from the insane levels and growth they see today

canada covers ALL canadians from cradle to grave for HALF what americans pay today

we could save money and cover all Americans, if the establishment fuckers like ryan, obama, clinton, bushes, mccains and the insurance and drug companies that own them are kept out of the creation...

p.s. Trump let people see that ryancare is the same as obamacare and both are from the insurance companies whose only desire is to get as much money as they can and give you as little as they can in return before you die

How many Americans go without treatment because of the high coast?

I know Canadians who have done so, BECAUSE they had money to pay out-of-pocket and didn't want to wait.

The Canadian system is "wider and shallower": everyone is covered, but there are fewer high-end treatments available, and you may have to wait a bit. So it's, like, more equitable, which is sort of the point of insurance.

The thing is, here in the U.S. it's the folks with money and power who have good insurance, so it's their voices who get heard whinging about "Oh, oh, we don't want to wait!" Well, I'm as self-interested as the next guy, but I'm not cold-hearted enough to be unwilling to wait a bit for non-urgent treatment if it means someone else gets ahead of me who needs it more.

Here, if you have good insurance, you can get overtreated instantly for something minor. The insurance companies don't like this, of course, which is one of the reasons that they're getting tighter and tighter about pre-authorizations for things like MRIs and CT scans. So the result is that some people have to wait here for urgent treatment that would have been treated instantly in Canada. No, not always -- I'm not saying there aren't some unpleasant waits in Canada. A friend had colon cancer, got instant surgery, including a colostomy bag; when he no longer needed the colostomy, he had to wait a few months for the surgery to remove it. That wouldn't happen here.

And there are parts of Canada that are underserved in some specialties; that's a different (though related) problem--perhaps partly caused by the goldmine that is U.S. medicine.

No, it's not a simple problem. The fact is, however, that we DO have a single-payer system: Medicare/Medicaid. And they do work.

So it's hard for me to see the objections to single-payer here as anything more than "I got mine, Jack".
