Who cares about the JV? The real teams are playing in 6A. I mean, Edison beat a team that had played Lee in the QF and beat them by only 7 points. You had 3 Washington Post top 20 teams in 6A not even make the regional semifinals and then a 4th one lost last night.

Obviously you care if you know follow Edison. On top of that you are a liar, Edison beat Freedom by way more than 7 points, check the paper. Also note your dig about Edison being a JV team, I believe they proved themselves last year winning the Northern Region Tournament with 5 Freshman against 6A teams not to mention the 6A teams they beat this year. and that's jsut the 6A playoff teams. West Potomac beat them by 38.

Well if we are going by who beat Lee and how much I believe Edison beat them by 50 with the second string getting most of the minutes. Mount Vernon beat Oakton. Edison beat MV by 25. Edison played TC this year. Beat them by 10. TC beat West Springfield and lost to them by a few points. I think it's clear who the better team is. They lost one starter from last year. Why would you doubt how good they are after winning the regional championship last year against the same schools you claim are Varsity.

My point is Freedom beat Lee by 7 points. And that's the team that Edison just beat yesterday.

We'll see how good Edison is next week when they play either Pincess Anne or Highland Springs. Probably another year where Edison fails to win a State Championship,like normal.

Have some type of class! That is so last year, what MV accomplished this year was great especially with the talent that they had as they graduated over 75% of their scoring from a year ago. The Coach made a mistake, and was very good this year and did a great job with what he had. The fact that you are using the N word on here and hiding behind a screen name is terrible. well another year, another year of Edison falling apart like normal. Got the doors blown off them this time- game was never in doubt. Only reason 10 point game was the bench they never played actually got in there and did well.. Maybe if they actually had confidence in them they may have actually done something. Only team that did well was Mt Vernon in states- the coach did a great job in that game.

Speaking of MV, let's talk Porter. The fact that any player, let alone Edison players were mentioned in the same breath as Porter makes the whole coach-player of the year a complete farce. Porter could be the best "all-around" player in the state. All the other players were exposed when the competition improved.

Edison; the report on them as history proves is that they actively recruit and not create their players and the coaches can never win big games when it matters. The Princess Anne game may have been the worst coached defensive game of all the playoffs. If they were so good from last year, why did they need to break the rules and recruit two outside players after this season started? They only won last year because MV lost two players during the season and Riley their team captain carried them against South Lakes. You may not remember Riley because the coaches benched her as soon as they recruited new favorites this year.

Oakton, WS, MV coaching staff all win state at 5A or 6A if they have a bench as deep as Edison. The difference is they would know how and when to use them.

The only team from the Northern Region who won in the states was Stonewall Jackson girls, their best player lives in Gainesville, not PWC.

The real question is WHY does the Northern Region lose to the other teams in the state. ANSWER - The Northern region "rule makers" hold all their high schools to a hogher standard and expect them to follow more strict rules than anywhere else , hurting the hs programs and empowering the AAU bumbs during the off season. HS coaches can not coach all of their kids all year but in PWC and in the rest of the state you can. WHY has no one ever sued the Northern Region to challenge and change the rule??????? Just imagine these high school basketball programs where the coaches can legally coach their kids like they do around the state and in private schools.

Gibson ONLY state title came when KARA LAWSON went to WS, her dad rented an apartment to attend the school to play basketball and that was legal ? LOL , Bill is a good coach , whines too much at the referees and they give into it. WS needs to take down that picture in the gym, EVERYONE knows the Lawson family lives in WP school ditrict and the rest of the family went to West Potomac, WS coaches their kids all year which is illegel in the northern region. Also, check into the senior guard who "moved" to ws from edison, no one called Bill a cheater and what happened at edison is the same thing.

Priester somehow mangages to get NEW players every year to move or transfer to the "hot bed" of basketball in Oakton and he even coaches them during the dead period, priester seeks out the worst teams/programs and invites them to his annual tipoff and holiday tournaments, EVERY year its a joke

Mount vernon- Conference 5 is a joke with Lee and some of the others making it to the region tournament, go back and look into the brackets, sad group of teams, they lost 4 times to edison this year.

EVERY GAME IS A BIG GAME , NONE of the other teams Edison played from the Northern region could beat them..... Conference 5 or 6

its high school basketball......

and you will find that parents & players will move relocate or do whatever the can to play for quality coaches... SAYS alot that people want their kids to play at Edison for Lewis. Quality COACHES do not need to recruit !!!

How many D1 players has Lewis coached? Yet she's never won the title. Was in 2 straight title games but they choked.

Let's just say this- if Priester or Gibson was coaching Edison- they probably win that game on Saturday. It definitely wouldn't have been a blowout like it was. Can we say the same about Lewis if she was coaching West Springfield vs Cosby? Probably not.

Highland Springs beat Stonewall Jackson by 46 points this year. Fourty-six. Gibson couldn't coach West Springfield to a win over Stonewall, so how much better than West Springfield must Edison be if you think he could have coached them to a win over Highland Springs?

Thank you Stop it!!! All of his whining is pretty transparent. The fact that West Springfield and Edison are not even in the same division but he insist on the comparison. Whatever Edison does has no bearing on West Springfield. Be a man and say it to her face instead of hiding behind the message board. Dan I would have loved for my daughter to play for Coach Lewis but unlike you I wasn't moving heaven and hell for her to go to school to play basketball when the school down the road offered the same education.

It pains me to see such ridiculous "facts". Just want to make a few things clear for the people that seem to know everything.

1.) WS is one of the best HS girls basketball programs in the state. That was established well before Kara was there. Check the records and stats from the early 90's. YEARS before Kara was there. Not taking anything from Kara because she definitely is the best all around player to ever attend WS. The 1997 State Championship that was won had many other good players. And for the person that is stating so many facts, note that Kara didn't even receive MVP in the regional tournament. Her teammate Mandy Stephens did. Checkmate!

2.) Kara was a national scholar with an almost perfect SAT score and WS was also a much better school academically for her. The combo of ball and academics made WS a good fit for her.

3.) Billy Gibson is by far one of the top HS Coaches in the country and that is coming straight from the mouths of several of the TOP college coaches in the country (I can say this because I've heard it first hand). I think I would trust their opinion well over a sour parent. His players are successful on and off the court after playing for him. Anyone that would pull their daughter off of Gibson's teams are worried about the wrong things if you ask me. The knowledge they gain is irreplaceable.

4.) I hope everybody on here stops comparing teams. You just can't. There are many teams that go 1-1 against one another during a season. So who is better? You can't say. There is a better team THAT NIGHT. After that game, it's back to square one. Any good player/parent/coach would understand that. Anything can happen on any given night.

Congrats to all of the teams mentioned in this thread. They all did a tremendous job.

Plus, look at the big picture. As the previous post said, WS has been a top girls' program for a long, long time (20 years or more).

Just the Cosby game showed a lot about Gibson. He normally plays really up tempo, but in the Cosby game, went to a stall. 1st quarter score was 5-2. Thru 3 it was 19-18. Got away a bit in the 4th, but still- that's great coaching. He gave them a chance to win in the end.

Coach Lewis is a great coach. The Coach of the Year is voted on by other coaches. There are several coaches who have great records and don't win the award because they are not respected by their peers. To say something so stupid like she's coached how many D1 players and has no titles proves you are a moron. Riverdale baptist has a lot of titles but every year their D1 players are looking for a new school mainly because they are academically ineligible. That doesn't happen to her players. College coaches thank her for sending them athletes who can juggle the demands of school and are physically ready to play. She doesn't let them slack off. Her former players come by the school all the time to talk with her about how things are going in their life. If you're a parent you know the mark of a good coach for your child. It's not if they have a title it's if they helped your kid become a better person. Dianne has been at the school for 10 years or so. There are just a few disgruntle parents compared to a few hundred players that are thankful they had the opportunity to play for her. She's been offered college coaching positions and turned them down. She continues to coach at the high school for the kids.

On the other hand, I know a guy who was a coach and had a reputation for getting more out of less, never had any D1 players, never won a distrcit title or anything but year in and year out made it to the regional tournament. He was never voted as coach of the year. Why? because he never had the horses or maybe because the other coaches were embarassed because his teams would beat them when they had superior talent. Being coach of the year isn't that big a deal. But like the previous poster said, kids who go on and succeed whether it's in basketball or somewhere else is the measure of success. Coaches can only do so much, but hopefully the lessons kids learn from competition.

Another guy I knew who retired quite a few years ago was a great coach and had the respect by everyone in the region was never coach of the year, but even with limited talent his teams were extremely competitive.

Of course, everyone wants to win but look at the way teams play and how they handle themselves win or lose. How about the message the MV coach sent to his girls team last year when he tweeted his rant and made it a racial issue when both he and the South Lakes coach are African-American, he had a great season, won the district,etc, etc.

Edison girls 0-4 to start the season, coach there is great, right ?!?!?.

I saw McKinney has gone back to Wakefield. Maybe that's why Edison is 0-6 and Wakefield is 5-1.
