NoVa Flu Shots

The American Lung Association offers a national Flu Clinic Locater; just type in your Zip code and get a list of nearby sites. http://www.flucliniclocator.org/

Inova Health System is offering flu shots for $25 at various NoVa locations; http://www.inova.org/healthcare-services/flu/index.jsp for links to downloadable PDFs that list the schedule of locations and dates.

The Fairfax County Health Department will provide flu vaccine for a $25 fee to ALL persons, including school-aged children. Please contact any one of the following 5 Health Department District Offices for information on how to get flu vaccine in October (scheduled appointment times and/or ‘walk-in’/non-appointment options).

The Fairfax County Public Library will provide flu shots at their locations throughout the county during October and November. Flu shots are $25; call Inova for details: 703-698-2426.

Pohick Regional Library - Saturday, October 18 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
City of Fairfax Regional Library - Tuesday, October 28 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Centreville Regional Library - Saturday, November 1 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
George Mason Regional Library - Thursday, November 6 10:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

PHARMACIES

CVS
Starting Oct. 1, flu shots for $30 will be available every day for walk-ins at the store’s MinuteClinics; flu clinics also are available.
Children must be 18 months or older.


RiteAid
Select stores will offer flu shot clinics on Oct. 21, 22 and 23 or Nov. 18, 19 and 20 from 2-6 p.m.; other select stores will offer flu shots by appointment. Shots are $30.
Children must be 11 years or older.


Walgreens
Walk-ins accepted for flu vaccinations now through December; appointments are recommended
The cost for the shot is $24.99 at most locations; FluMist nasal spray costs $29.99
Children must be at least 2 years old.



BIG BOX RETAILERS

Sam’s Club
From Oct. 11-Nov. 14 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on select Fridays, participating Sam’s Clubs will offer vaccinations for $20 to members AND nonmembers
Only adults 18 years and older


Costco
Starting Oct. 1, flu shot clinics will be offered on certain days at a cost of $20
Only adults 18 years and older at its Virginia locations (that’s what their Web site says)
Their Web site says cash and Medicare Part B are the only accepted forms of payment



GROCERY STORES

Giant
From Oct. 1 to Nov. 12, select in-store pharmacies are offering shots to walk-ins for $30
Children under 9 years should receive the immunization from their pediatrician


Harris Teeter
Flu shot clinics available Oct. 6-Nov. 19
$25 with a VIC card, FluMist available at $30
Must be at least 8 years old to receive the shot and at least 2 years old to receive FluMist


Safeway
Some in-store pharmacies are conducting flu shot clinics; most will accept walk-ins now through February 2009

Nope, that one isn't available yet. I found out from my boss, who contracted H1N1 on a plane from Dulles to San Francisco a week ago. She was on some kind of anti-viral cocktail. She NEVER takes sick time off, and was here all of about two hours last week. It's some nasty shit. She did tell us that in the course of having this thing that she found out that the vaccine will not be available to the general public for a while longer, but that once you have had it, you won't get it again. She rolled her eyes and said, "yeah, lucky me."

I've usually gotten the Seasonal Flu Vaccine annually for as long as I can remember, but I don't know about you folks, however I'm skipping the "Swine Flu" shot. It's a live Virus in the H1N1 Vaccine, and it has been known to cause issues.
