The normal characters are the ones behind this initiative. Teachers union, PTA, SIEU and probably the School Board members. They are persistent, they have money, and they will not take no for an answer.

re: How to start: you made extremely salient points
Challenge to:
Invest In Fairfax/ Yes to Meals Tax Supporters:
247,139 + voted in favor. Track your meal expenditures per the Conditions of the defeated Tax Proposal.
Annually/voluntarily send the 4% monies to FCPS.
Example: $100.00 (possibly a low number) average tax per voter per year = 247,139 x $100.00 = almost an additional $25M a year voluntarily going into the FCPS coffers to help ease some of the purported burdens.
Quit your whining/complaining/slacking.
I am completely confident that all of you will indeed step up to the plate/come together in defeat and help Invest in Fairfax; by voluntarily supporting the FCPS.
I would like to believe they mean it when they say the Meals Tax proposal "sparked a discussion about the quality of life and the future of Fairfax County". Those who voted "no" weren't limited to the anti-tax crowd. Conservatives, moderates and liberals, Republicans, independents and Democrats all came together to vote No. We may not have agreed on a vision of how Fairfax County should function, but we did agree that the way it is functioning today isn't something we feel justifies more money.
So the question for the Invest in Fairfax people is "Were you listening to the people who opposed your efforts, or do only the opinions of meals tax supporters matter?"
That is also the same question for the School Board and the Board of Supervisors. Are you treating this as simply a budgetary problem to deal with? Or are you understanding the voters want you to rethink your budget priorities so that we taxpayers are seeing more value for our tax dollars?
This is why I said in another thread that Meals Tax opponents can't look at this fight as being over. We won the battle, but the war is still going on.
Love that little "Washington Post Endorsed" mention on the artwork. Tell me, has there ever been a new tax that the Washington Post has not endorsed? Even one?
