Farewell To The Fairfax Meals Tax

What will FCPS do in the aftermath of the defeat of the meals tax?

https://fairfaxvotenoonthemealstax.wordpress.com/2016/11/09/farewell-to-the-fairfax-meals-tax/

This decisive vote is, in fact, a vote of no confidence for the failed policies of FCPS.

The BoS will raise the property tax this spring, and you can't vote that down.

Good. Then parents can actually help pay for the education the products of their recreational sexual activities are costing the taxpayers of the county.

They would have done that anyway. That's what they do.

Fat-assed County Employees will have to find some other way to line their pockets.

Let met state it one more time:

It's absurd that some "Firefighter" can "retire" at 40-41 years old.

You're not a "Firefighter", you're a government tit-sucker.

And, you're not "retiring", because 100% of every adult in the room knows that you are going to get another job.

You government workers are leeches, and should start thinking about providing for your owner retirement account, instead of relying on me as a taxpayer to pay for you.

This goes to Firefighters, cops, teachers, and all the leeches in the Fairfax County Government Center.

It'll come back again. Give it another 4-6 years.

Pretty telling that ultraliberal Fairfax would reject another tax. Libs must've been afraid this was a tax that even they would have to pay.

...and if the General Assembly has not provided other means of raising taxes more equitably and BOTH the BOS and School Board prove that they can be trusted with additional funds it will probably be passed. In the meantime, the School Board needs to grow up and the BOS must act as a mentor in getting them to act responsibly.

$2.6 billion dollars and they cannot shed $100 million?

They should be able to do this in their sleep with their eyes closed and the students should not even feel it.

Metro is cutting 1000 jobs, what is FCPS doing?

FCPS is paying the electric bill for all their cell phone towers, English as a second language, and five different round the clock handlers for each and every down syndrome retard.

Wrong. Now honest land owning citizens get to "help pay for the education the products of their recreational sexual activities are costing the taxpayers of the county" since their parents are illegal and from some god forsaken mud hut village.

FCPS has cut nearly 1000 adminstrative positions since 2013 as well as nearly half a billion dollars. Over the last ten years, the county has grown by over 23, 000 students.

They could stand to cut at least another 100 administrators, and would save even larger amounts of money by cutting the "consultants". The travel junkets for high level administrators need to stop.

FCPS needs to deal with it. Spend money on students. That means do NOT spend money on travel, conferences, consultants, initiatives, experiments and more administrators and managers. FCPS has now dug itself into a DEEP hole. Let's see if "big brain" McElveen has a solution, especially now that he has no "back door" into the Clinton administration.

"FCPS has cut nearly 1000 adminstrative positions since 2013 as well as nearly half a billion dollars. Over the last ten years, the county has grown by over 23, 000 students."

Well... the Budgets say: in FY05 there were 164,284 students and 21,564 employees. In FY15 there were 185,914 students (an increase of 21,630) and 23,869 employees (of which 657 are in School Administration aka "Gatehouse" although some are school based as "Asst Principals" etc.). The $500 million of "savings" is misleading - this is calculated as the foregone spending accrued over time. For a reality check look at the increase in the FCPS budget, up 20.4% since FY09 while enrollment increased 11.2%...

The most troubling information is the reduction in teaching positions for typical students (157 positions reduced at the same time enrollment was increased by 548 students).
