Nope. It's because Virginia is a commonwealth and not a state. It may be legal in the state of Virginia but I've never been there...

Then move there. I'm with you but it's not as if Va is the only State/Commonwealth left that hasn't legalized it.

And if this bothers you so much, yeah, go vote for Hillary, then you'll never see it legal here or maybe anywhere.

because the Tobacco state sells Cancer by the truckload - that is why. Phillip Morris enjoys $80,110,000,000 in annual revenue selling a product that, when used as directed, causes cancer, heart disease, emphysema, stroke and a host of illnesses.

Cannabis is a non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, non-addictive plant. Tobacco not so much.

Because Virginia is a conservative backward state run by downstate Republicans. Vote them out. Get progressives in state offices.

This year could be a watershed year in the fight against marijuana prohibition, following the successful effort to legalize recreational use of the drug in Colorado and Washington four years ago and Alaska, Oregon, and the District of Columbia in 2014. Activists have placed measures on the ballot to allow for non-medical usage in five more states next month: Arizona, Massachusetts, Maine, Nevada, and the biggest prize of all, California.

Consider the reality:
- weed is illegal per federal law (reconfirmed this year)
- many states have legalized recreational use and even more medical use

So...what gives? It's been my contention since the first state legalized medical weed and got away with it that the Feds have decided not to fight it because they know that if it goes to SCOTUS, they'll lose. States' rights, ya know...

If I'm right, then 50 states legal (plus DC and the territories) seems inevitable.

I can't think of a single state that has either legalized outright or simply decriminalized marijuana and then had it recriminalized later on. Seems like once the law is passed it's damn near impossible to revert.

That being said, Virginia could well be one of the last states to legalize. Could take years, decades even. On the bright side, it's essentially legal in DC and in Maryland medical marijuana shops are fighting for licenses as we speak. There's no stopping that train, but if you're hoping for VA to become Colorado or Washington you'll be waiting a long time
