where can I find out just how many deers are living in Fairfax County?(or deers from neighbouring counties that commute to Fairfax County for food)

where can I find out just how many deers are living in Fairfax County?
(or deers from neighboring counties that commute to Fairfax County for food)

someone in the Fairfax gov't must have done a study one this, right?

yes, I think there are too many dammm deers around here. on my way home
tonight, I was 10 or 12 deers in a group, crossing my street. (half were
adult females and half were baby deers with spots)

Yeah they are eating all my tomato plants too. There are a bunch that live at GMU near the Field House. I see them all the time. Now they come to my yard like they own the place. There are even baby deer too.

Trickie: I use hardware cloth to keep deer or other animals away from what they shouldnt be in.

I really don't mind the deer except, like Trickie said, they munch on everything in the yard including ferns, trees, flowers etc... I've tried "Deer Away", fox urine, etc.. and nothing seems to work.

How are you using the hardware cloth? Wrapping it around the plant? I don't want to have wire mesh covering every plant in my yard.

Anybody else got any great "deer away" ideas?

I have a raised bed at the corner of my house. Some wooden stakes hold up the stuff (heavy plastic, if it gets chewed thru ill move up to metal) and it goes around to form an enclosed space. Its a large box with the sides made of hardware cloth. I havnet put a top/roof on yet but if deer start to reach in maybe. it doesnt seem too strong (i.e a deer could push it down) but i havent had any problems this season.
