What is the FFX County Board Doing about Traffic In Fairfax County? It's getting unbearable!
Posted by: County Traffic Grid Lock ()

It seems the FFX county board just keeps allowing developers to building, building, building skyscrapers every where.

Rush hour and weekend traffic is starting to get rid locked.

Are developers paying off board members to approve these crazy skyscraper buildings with no new roads or traffic plans?

With all the in progress and planned high rise buildings in Tysons, that place is going to become a nightmare. Whomever approved all that development is an idiot.

The board hopes to use the meals tax to improve the infrastructure.

I think they developers are playing the board by saying every resident will use the Metro to go any place.

What type of F'd up logic is that. Nobody commutes from DC to Tyson Corner. Nobody uses the subway to go grocery shopping or get a haircut.

Tyson's is already a cluster f of traffic. Nobody wants to live in Tyson Corner any more.

Of course the developers are paying off the Fairfax County Council. Where have you been for the past 50 years?

Yes, I'm aware that traffic sucks. In response, I want taxpayers to fund more free luxury housing for illegals.

YES, they are.

Real Estate developers have owned the BoS for decades. Fairfax County needs to be incorporated as a City so that it can keep its transportation funds and fix its own roads. VDOT has been fleecing this area forever. The state will never allow it, of course. Elect a Republican who will have the cojones to withhold those funds. What is Virginia gonna do? Invade. We're bigger than the rest of the state.

To add some humor to this, got this 8.5 x 11 inch postcard from a local politician just before election time years ago, still hanging up in my home office bulletin board saying "Greetings from Northern Virginia, Home of the world's largest parking lot!"

"whomever"? LOL. In addition to a grammar checker, you might want to take a look at the master plan for Tysons to see what is planned for new and improved roads to move traffic into and out of the city.

Suggestions to reduce traffic:

1. Get illegals out of here, thousands less cars.
2. If it is technically possible for a person to do their job from home, permit regular telecommuting some or all days of the week. Works for many office type jobs, though likely not if person handling highly sensitive government data, and will not work say if person is working retail, warehouse, delivery, or other service type work. Though have come a long way with online retail, it does not replace the touchy feely of some purchases such of trying clothes on for size locally to avoid later online return, or food perishables where also delivery charge per trip or annual subscription.
3. Less likely to think about with cheaper gas, but combine errands into one trip, which also saves time.

For 1. and 2., always question of political will of government and especially large businesses allowing it to happen.

Getting Metrorail fixed for commuting where it is again reliable and safe will take perhaps 20% of the cars off the road. Right now, with Metro having not done adequate maintenance work for 40 years, the system is falling apart where it is not reliable, slow in places, and not safe at times. As I pass by one of the Vienna Metro surface lots on the way home, lot of empty spaces vs. use to be full. Given now, Metro has a better CEO, maybe not perfect, than it has ever had, slow progress is being made, but expecting it will take at least a couple of years to catch up with the backlog of repair work. Until then, many will find the challenges of driving alone better than the unexpected delays on Metro, especially if they have kids to pick up from daycare at the end of the working day. There is a question on the election ballot issuing bonds to give Metro $120 million for its capital repair needs. If it wasn't for the current Metro CEO, I would vote against, but am voting to give him a chance to make things right in the near future.

Buy online, where feasible, not recommend where have to try clothes on for size (unless enjoy online returns or contribute to traffic doing returns) or with perishables (costly delivery, per trip or annual subscription) or furniture or mattresses to feel the comfort of the fabric. This results in fewer delivery trucks on road locally delivering many purchases vs. many cars with one purchase each. Often can get free shipping, usually if purchase amount is high enough, online promo codes and gift cards can be used to to reduce purchase price, and if buy from seller out of state without a presence in VA, no sales tax charged. Whether you pay the VA Consumer Use tax for online or old paper catalog purchases is another matter.

Also many banking transactions can be done online, money transfers, depositing checks (if your smartphone capable of it), pay credit card and other bills vs. driving to a mailbox if one not within reasonable walking distance of where you live. Check the security policy of the institution you deal with how they deal with fraud if by slight chance your transaction is intercepted. On your side, have more than basic anti-virus software, one suggestion is anti-keylogging and anti-screen capture software such as SpyShelter where your keystrokes are encrypted.

Use credit cards to buy online, not debit cards. If fraudulent transaction, lot easier to get it removed from a credit card than fighting your bank to get your funds added back with a debit card.

New roads in Tyson's? Where? There is no room to put in new roads. And Tyson's is not a "city" you douche.

Metro was the top mass transit system in the country until idiot TEA Party types started pushing their anti-tax babble all over the place. Public enterprise from Metro to our national parks was sacrificed in favor of tax cuts for the rich. What a bunch of downscale losers it was who actually fell for that load of garbage. Now, all these chickens are coming home to roost. Much more money than what the dummies thought they were saving but actually only squandered will be needed to catch up. The cost in cash and inconvenience for SafeTrack is just the beginning of the tab that the dumb and the reckless have run up.

The question is not over new or special funding. It is to allow the County to pay the next four years of its recurring annual contributions to Metro from bond revenues. This is simply in recognition of the fact that Metro is a long term obligation of the jurisdictions that jointly fund the system. Funds for the improvement of some ancillary roads are also included in the $120 million though.

Obviously, you are both stupid and one who has not read ANY of the planning documents for the new Tysons. You should basically just give up entirely and stay stupid at this point. You are so dumb and so far behind the curve that you will NEVER be able to catch up.

If you are so in the know, educate us with these "master plans". I commute through Tyson's on a daily basis and all I see in increasing gridlock.

Do you have Google, you hopeless dumbfuck? Try looking for Tysons Development Plan. You can just copy and paste that in if remembering and typing all those words would be too much for you.

Let's see the highlights:

- improves mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists
- Smaller block sizes will make Tysons more walkable by creating convenient and short walk distances between points in Tysons and will improve pedestrian and bicycle access to the four new Silver Line Metrorail Stations in Tysons
- Transit and vanpool subsidies
- Pre-tax deduction of transit and vanpool fares
- Telework program
- Carpool and vanpool matching service
- Shower and locker facilities for bicyclists and walkers
- Secure and weatherproof bicycle parking
- Carpool and vanpool preferential parking
- On-site car-sharing vehicle
- Employee shuttle
- Guaranteed Ride Home Program
- Commuter information center (bulletin board, web site, brochure table)
- Employee Transportation Coordinator (ETC)
- Flexible or alternative work hours

None of this is addresses the fact that the majority of the vehicles going through Tysons are going "through" Tysons and not going "to" Tysons. Rt. 123 and Rt. 7 are major arteries for people to get from point A to point B and this "MASTER PLAN" does not even address that.
