The Chantilly gun shows prey on the ignorant. Everything is way overpriced and they charge for admission on top of that. I went once just to look things over but only a fool would buy a gun there. There are also lots of illegal gun sales that are set up there.

True. Good place to look. Cheaper online.

False.

There are decent prices there. Not every booth, but if you look, I an definitely get good deals. Know what you can get something for before you go in. I have yet to find a price online that I couldn't get close to at the show. You don't have to pay for shipping, no waiting, no FFL hassles at the show. If you do find something that much cheaper online, buy it online.

BS. Never. Plus you have to count the cost of admission and tax.

Actually this is very true, just an exchange of phone numbers leads to a under the counter sale at a neutral meeting location a few days after the gun show is over. Low life gun dealers give the legit ones a bad name.

Are angry at others that take advantage of this venue because you lack the ability to haggle a better price?

Perhaps you cannot afford the ticket price to enter the show.

I do just as well or better on GunBroker. I just got an AR for my 10 y.o., in case things go stupid come Election Day. My girl isn't going to use it anytime soon, as she's doing ok with her single shot .22, but will grow into this one. And there's always the possibility that such things may not be openly available a year from now. I'll be at the gun show looking for good prices on ammo.

Ha, if you think the prices are overpriced then YOU'RE THE IGNORANT. I have purchased several firearms from the show and it's ALWAYS at least 10-20% off any firearms store. I'm assuming you're too uneducated to know how to negotiate so you think the prices are too high.

HAA HAA HAA! Anyone who says the prices at the Expo are too high are idiots. Go on Sunday (last day) and you can ALWAYS bargain prices down. Even more so if you pay cash.

Also, if you're too cheap to pay ten bucks to enter the expo...you shouldn't be purchasing firearms. Maybe learn how to budget and plan your future better.

Which still is 20% more than the same gun online even with FFL fee.

Deals can be found at any show, online, or classified sales. Patience and knowledge are key to finding the best item at the best price.

This goes for guns, cars/trucks, livestock, antiques, coins or whatever you are interested in.

If you are shopping for a new firearm this is generally true, but if you are looking for vintage pre 64 Winchesters not everything is online.

Some dealers are not interested in putting guns online, so a show be could be the only way to find that special gun.

At the last show I picked up a Ruger AR-556 for the same price as I saw it online. Saved me the $22 FFL fee and I had it in-hand. Know what you're looking for and know the online price (+shipping + FFL) and you can do well.

An educated consumer...

True at times but even for older guns you have a much wider selection through auction sites like Gunbroker, large vendors like Buds, higher-end collector sites, etc. Guns are no different than anything else that's moved mostly online. Granted you can't see and hold them in advance but most reputable known sellers rate things properly and provide plenty of pictures.

That's more true at good smaller gun shows. This one isn't. It's a circuit show where most of the vendors travel with it and they pick up a few local vendors along the way. All of them pay substantial money to the promoter to be at the show so their costs are higher and all of them tend to price things accordingly. Not to say that you can't find a deal sometimes, but they're more few and far between at shows like this. Not a great show as far as shows go. There are much better local shows for that kind of thing.

You know it! Preparations are already in the works. Multiple 747s will be flying pallets of hot dogs into Dulles for the event. From there they will be transported to Chantilly via 18-wheelers. It's going to be a riot! Early estimations are that approximately 17.7 billion calories will be consumed during the event.

Stay away from the steak and cheese sandwich they sell there. It was actually really good going down but oh man did it give me gas the whole time I was there, I was running to the toilet every 15 minutes. had me farting up a storm for the next day, needless to say my wife was not too happy about that whole ordeal.

Was a good place to visit back in the days, not anymore. Their firearms are costlier than online.. yes, they are cheaper than B&M gun shops.

Plus they charge for entry fees, which goes directly to NRA, as this is a NRA sponsored event.

No, it goes to the promoter who runs the show (Showmasters/C & E Gun Shows).

https://www.showmastersgunshows.com/

Vendors pay them for table space as does the NRA to sponsor the show.

The promoter pays for the venue (Dulles Expo Center in this case) and does the ccoordination, logistics, advertising, etc. for the show.

Works basically the same way for all of these types of convention center-type shows, electronics, crafts, boats, guns, whatever.

And you don't think the promoters make a nice profit.

I'm getting a 50 caliper Hawkin Bear Rifle, a couple of Glocks, and some AK's. I will sleep with them every night.

Where did you read that in any of what I wrote? Hopefully they do; otherwise, there's no point in them going to the trouble to do it.

The point being that entry fees do not go 'directly to NRA, as this is a NRA sponsored event' as was posted.
