I will never, ever go in to 29 Diner again.

Not just because the food is worse than Denny's across the street and costs more.

He has the audacity to campaign for a 10% meals tax for all of Fairfax County, since he is in Fairfax City and already collects the tax from hapless customers.

Meanwhile, two miles down the road you can walk in to Silver Diner and see a big "Fuck The Meals Tax" sign.

A lot of us love the Rt. 29 Diner and want to support it. The prices are a little higher than average. But still a great local institution with nice waitresses and a large selection of grub.

29 Diner sucks in its current form. Bad food, high prices, crummy service. They should sell 29 Diner to someone who can help it survive.

You just don't like it because 29 Diner supports fag meth dealing mayors and higher taxes for everyone except themselves.

I don't blame him for campaigning for it. If it passes, it will help him and he will be on a level playing field with Fairfax County establishments.

Plus, it is nice to see old fashioned diners. That place, apparently has a lot of history.

Silver diner is a big chain that tries to imitate an old fashioned diner experience, but independent places like 29 are closer to the real thing.

Of course the Silver Diners in Fairfax County don't want it to pass.

I am totally against the FC proposed meals tax but I can certainly see why he'd want it to pass.

Those signs are FOR ASSHOLES ONLY. And like the Silver Diner and the 29 Diner are even remotely the same thing! You must still be in like middle school or something.

Take some pressure off County property owners. Vote YES on the meals tax and let some of these tourists, commuters, and business travelers pitch in a few pennies for a change.

Yeah, 29 Diner is for atmosphere and nostalgia, not food. Breakfast there isn't bad, but it's not any better than Dennys. Never get anything else there except breakfast. Burgers are gristly, pies are gluey, everything else is crap.

I haven't been there since ownership changed though. Might be better or worse for all I know.

I went into the 29 Diner when it reopened under current ownership a couple years ago. Tried ordering an omelet and was told they weren't on menu. They did have some kinda gravy covered biscuits - ugh. Haven't gone back since.

What kind of Diner can't make an omelet?

Typical lazy fucks posting.
If you haven't been ...
- since it reopened, shut the fuck up about the food.
- in a couple years, shut the fuck up and look up the current menu.
They have omelettes, fuck nut.

Disclaimer: I haven't been since it reopened. So I won't say it's good or bad.

Never been to 29 Diner, though I live just down the road. I'll have to check it out sometime, is it still open 24 hours?
I do like Silver Diner, good food and they make a point of using local produce etc. which is nice.

$11 for bacon and eggs, plus $2 for coffee. Add the Fairfax City 10% meals tax and a small tip and you have a $16 basic breakfast.

Denny's or even (gasp) iHop are a better value.

If I want to pay $16 for breakfast... First Watch in Fair City. Much better food.

They're trapped in a Catch 22.
Stuck eating shitty food, listening to shitty talk radio, watching shitty news that makes them angry ... all because of politics.

13 bucks for breakfast at a diner is a bit high. I hope that included toast and jam.

The word 'commie'.
I don't think you understand what it means.
As a rule of thumb, entrepreneurs that open and run businesses typically aren't communist.

And it's $1.99 at Denny's.

I am sure there's some trolling in here, but having a dislike for them related to the meals tax issue is valid. They teamed up with a pro-meals tax group to hold an event supporting the Fairfax County meals tax and wanted to flaunt it. They are in Fairfax City and have nothing to do with this tax. Everyone can have an opinion and it is a "free" country after all. However, they worked with this pro-meals tax group to make it look like there were a bunch of restaurants supporting the tax that were in Fairfax County.. Only none of them were. It's a pretty shitty move and shows a rather lame level of deceit. It's basically a reflection of the pro-meals tax agenda. Say a bunch of stuff that looks good to people who don't know better.

Seeing that Pat Hynes post about Greveys is the most disappointing thing I have seen. Publicly stating people shouldn't eat at a restaurant that is anti-meals tax is vindictive and sad. It's the mentality of a lot of people supporting the meals tax. They are like children who throw tantrums at those who disagree with them. I am ashamed these people represent our supposed interests.

The place seems to be run as a hobby. Half the parking lot is full of his vintage cars - how can a Diner survive with only a couple parking spaces?

I finally went there for the first time on Monday evening.

I had the Meatloaf sandwhich. It wasn't bad.

It was really cool to look around inside at all the old stuff.

You don't see really old school diners like it anymore.

The lady was nice.

I talked to a young guy working there about NASCAR.

They even had a young Indian/Pakistani dude working there.

I was the only customer. One guy was picking up his carryout food as I walked in.

It's a little cheaper than Silver Diner, but the food is not as good.

I will go back again.

In today's world of corporate restaurant chains, it is a nice change of pace to go to an independent place.

I can understand your anger at the school board. What they said about Grevey's was lame.

As for the owner of the 29 diner, he was probably just looking for much needed publicity, plus if Fairfax County meals tax passes, it may help him, as less people will avoid Fairfax City restaurants because of their meal tax.

I am against the Fairfax County meals tax, but realize the owner of the 29 diner isn't going to be a major force on whether or not it passes.

I will still visit his establishment.

Being a Diner nut and Restaurant history freak, I am glad they cleaned it up and are running. It is a rare and nice example of a 40's Mountain View Diner. Back in the day though We preferred this FFX diner for our post bar fix.

I will never eat at 29 Diner again because of his involvement in this political issue.

That's my vote. With my feet.
