An American Celebration at Mount Vernon

Historic Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington, salutes our first commander-in-chief with a dazzling display of made-for-daytime fireworks during its annual Independence Day event! Visitors will be treated to spectacular smoke fireworks in patriotic colors fired over the Potomac River. The event also includes an inspirational naturalization ceremony for 100 new citizens, military reenactments, a special wreathlaying ceremony, and a visit from the "first" first couple, "General and Mrs. Washington." An American Celebration at Mount Vernon is included in regular Estate admission: adults, $15.00; children ages 6-11, $7.00; and children under 5 are admitted free.

City of Fairfax 4th of July Evening Program and Fireworks Show

Falls Church Independence Day celebration

Food, drinks, and ice cream will be for sale. No alcohol, smoking, fireworks, or pets permitted on site. Spectator seating available at George Mason High School's Moore Cadillac Stadium and the Northern Virginia Graduate Center parking lot. Bring a blanket for the field. Chairs permitted on paved surfaces only. Sponsored by the City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department.


Fireworks, Food, Family, and Fun at Lake Fairfax Park on July 4th

Park grounds open at 7am so bring your family for a full day of fun! The Water Mine will be open 10am-8pm, but generally hits capacity around 12pm so plan to arrive early!! There will be vendors near the park main office offering a variety of foods and tasty dessert treats! There will be pony rides and a small petting zoo from 10am-1pm, moon bounces from 1pm-5pm, and a field day event with family games from 5pm-6pm near the picnic area. The carousel and marina will also be available from 11am-7pm. There is also a puppet show from 6pm-8pm near the carousel! Parking attendants will be directing traffic throughout the park. When you enter the park, please follow the directions of the parking staff. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:15pm. The fireworks are shot off over the lake so the view can be seen from almost any portion of the park!! The campgrounds are available for anyone wishing to stay overnight. McLean 4th of July Celebration 2011

Each year, the Special Events Division of the McLean Community Center puts on McLean's 4th of July Celebration at Langley High School Stadium. There are games for the kids starting at 6:00 pm with a dj and various food concessionaires. This is followed by a pre-fireworks concert always of a special nature followed by the Grande Finale, the best fireworks around short of the national mall. This is always such a great family event for young, old and in between. We are already hard at work arranging for the details. As information becomes available regarding performances, etc. We will post them here in this space.This event is free to the public, sponsored and produced entirely by the McLean Community Center. Free shuttle buses make accessing the site easy for visitors.

World War II Living History

Sully Historic Site hosts its annual World War II Weekend on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 10, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Meet over 100 reenactors representing both Allied and Axis troops, and get an up-close look at what life was like for soldiers and civilians during the war years. Interpreters will have authentic uniforms, equipment, weapons and vehicles, including a halftrack tank, on display in their camps.

Tour the 1794 home of Richard Bland Lee and find out about homefront activities during World War II at Sully and in Fairfax County. Children can play games and participate in a scavenger hunt that highlights war-time recycling. Demonstrations will be scheduled throughout both days, and there will be a tactical skirmish each afternoon. Examine a display of World War German Naval uniforms and talk to the collector who owns them. Stop by the kitchen to learn about rationing, substitutions and victory gardens. On Saturday, Christopher Hamner, Associate Professor of History at George Mason University, will give a talk and sign copies of his new book "Enduring Battle: American Soldiers in Three Wars, 1776-1945." The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is $8/adult and $6/senior and child. All veterans and active duty military with ID will be admitted free of charge.


Summer Colonial Market Fair

Celebrate spring at the first Market Fair of the season. Dance and sing songs. Bob for apples, play quoits and other games, and watch a children's puppet theatre. Order nails from the Blacksmith, or have your fortune told by the Gypsy Fortune Teller. Lunch might be fresh corn or asparagus, roast chicken, sausages and bread. Lemonade and sugar cakes from the Sweets stand and wine or ale from the Tavern provide a break from shopping and the other business of the Fair. Period food, beverages and wares are available for purchase from the many stalls.

a fairfax High School does not have fireworks show tonight. Arond 500 people was ther just to see the sky light up from some where far away and left in anger.Especially the kids, they were so disapointed.
