On June 9, 2016, the Fairfax County School Board quietly passed a regulation which poses the single largest threat to free speech for Virginians since the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798. Under this new policy, criticism of the transgender agenda is considered a violation of "student rights" and can lead to school discipline, whether the statements are made inside or outside of school.
"Without a doubt, students will be punished for saying negative things on Facebook and Twitter about transgenderism"
- Sitting Fairfax County School Board Member Elizabeth Schultz
The Monday before the vote, officials quietly invited members of the public to speak at the meeting -- but rigged the process so that all twelve slots at the meeting were taken up by pro-transgender "witnesses."
This is not even about the transgender policy. I believe that the policy is misguided and wrong, however that is not what we are discussing. The issue at hand is whether a school can suspend or expel students for online speech critical of the latest social-justice fad such as transgenderism.
Please, all citizens of Virginia, sign this petition to protect the free speech of public school students in Fairfax County.
