Fuck you and fuck your nephew...he sleeps with the fishes now. Oh and welcome to Fairfax Underground...their job is to die and our job is to flame their corpses.
I never met Ed but know his ex-girlfriend AMANDA well. I know he was in Colorado and came back east. I heard that he wanted to resolve an old police matter. I also know of some of his earlier trouble prior to him going to CO. Can you keep me in the loop if possible, perhaps to my e-mail as opposed to this venue.

Then how did he drown in a creek? He should have just swum to the edge and got out.

That creek is very dangerous and renowned for its swift and powerful current. Native Americans who settled here in ancient times knew it as "the creek of death".

Another piece of history about how strong this creek is - Back in 1930 the area was surveyed to build a dam to generate electricity. The "Six Companies" determined that the creek was just too dangerous to construct the dam, so they decided to construct a dam further west.
They concluded that a easier, safer, construction project of a dam would be on the Colorado River, and they built the Hoover Dam.

Again I say Tripps Run?????
I grew up with Tripps Run in my backyard. In the area where this guy passed.
I guess it was different in the 30's but no way it is that way now.
Are you sure you all got the right creek?

I googles Six Companies and I see no connection of Tripps Run and Six Companies. I would be interested if there was but I see nothing.

Still nothing. A lot of stuff on the Hoover Dam but no connection to Tripps Run.
I searched for anything about a dam and Tripps Run and of course it says that Tripps Run and Holmes Run feed Lake Barcroft with the Lake Barcroft dam.
I also searched anything with a dam and Holmes Run because back then Tripps Run was probably called North Holmes Run.
Still nothing

Due to a large presence of Union Troops in the area Col. Sanders was commissioned to navigate the waters of Tripps Run from the Old Columbia Pike to the Alexandria Turnpike in an attempt to feed starving troops trapped on Munson's Hill. Unfortunately the Col. had to turn back because of the dangerous currents which made it impossible his troops to make any progress. The Col. referenced his failure in his autobiography saying that it was one of the most treacherous waterways he ever encountered during the course of the war.

You neglected to mention the impact of the failed mission to supply the starving troops. It is estimated that over 50,000 troops starved to death, and the surviving 200,000 did so by feeding themselves from the corpses of the dead.

Tripp's Run was heavily scouted by Union ironclads during the Yazoo Pass Expedition. That stream was their final failed attempt to turn the confederate flank at Vicksburg before Grant decided to cross the Mississippi and attack it from their supply base at Jackson, MS.

The creek looks much different than it did prior to WWII. Much hydro power was needed for the Manhattan Project, so Robert J. Oppeneheimer commissioned an underground aqueduct to divert the power of the creek to supply electrical power for developing the Atomic Bomb at Oakridge, TN
After the war, the waters were diverted again to help produce electricity for the TVA.
This has controlled this waterway, and reduced the devastation experienced in the Northern Virginia area during our monsoon seasons.

This thread should be used as example on how to succeed in trolling. Such good examples. I'm on. I'm off. I'm on. I'm off. Like a roller coaster. I don't know what to believe anymore. I'm throwing the whole thing out. Except for that poor lost soul that lost his life and all the others who died [in the "creek"?]

I don't believe any of this crap about tripps run.
It's a piss ass little creek running through Falls Church.
Starting around Shreve rd. and 495 and ending in Bracroft.

^^ you underestminate the power of bodies of running water .. their looks ate VERY deceptive ..
Strong running water, less than 1 foot deep can sweep one of their feet and have them rolling down stream in a micro-second ..
add this to one's head hitting a rock .. and it could mean death.
You haven't had the experience with water that I've had apparently -- and never want to againg.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant actually came up with the lyrics to "When The Levee Breaks" while sitting on the banks of Tripp's Run during a major rain storm.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about the man who was found dead in the creek. You nerds need to start a Civil War post elsewhere. Keep on task!

I know a guy's body was found in the creek, God rest his soul. I came by there when this was going on.
All the rest of this shit I don't believe.
No Hoover dam, no Manhattan project, no Col. Sanders and no Jack Tripper wasn't there.

"Barcroft community was named in memory of a doctor who built his home here and also operated a mill. The man was Dr. John W. Barcroft, originally from New Jersey. In 1849 Dr. Barcroft came to our area and built both a home and a mill on Columbia Pike at Tripps Run near the present dam. He practiced medicine throughout the surrounding community and ran his mill up to the time of the Civil War.
During its retreat from the Battle of Bull Run, the Union Army overran Dr. Barcroft's home. His property was so damaged that he went back North until the end of the war. He then returned to Fairfax County and built a new home on what became known as Barcroft Hill."

I always thought, within the county, a swollen Turkeycock Run or flooded North Peters Run provided better opportunities for experiencing white water than Holmes Run ever could. Last time I went down North Peters Run the white water splashed all over my face.
