Washington Monument: a never ending DC City spending fiasco

For the second time in four days, the Washington Monument is closed

-----------------
George washington is rolling in his grave with the thought the monument would be used to bilk the taxpayer continually for "never ending maintenace" of cold hard stone

George Washington forbid Congress from building him a tomb (because he knew they'd use it for $$$ cash grab) and insisted he never be on a $ denomenation which was "unnafordable to the masses - a symbol of bank xfer, the rich, or power" (thus, $1 bill)

(infact i've never been to the top and dont care - it's not the eiffel tower who'd want to walk high up into a plain stone block with lazers in the windows anyway?)

No one. That's why the Washington Monument has elevators.

1. The monument wasn't started until 50 years after he was dead. George had no clue of the monument.

2. EVERYTHING needs 'maintenace' or it disappears/breaks, even cold hard stone.
Have you never seen pictures of the Parthenon in Greece? The Colosseum in Rome?

3. If it is closed it's the elevator that is in repair.

4. According to the current conditions on the website it is open.

You are indeed a bad tourist and a mental midget.

When I was a kid in the 50's, you could walk up to the top of the monument and I did it several times. At some point they banned walking up, but you could take the elevator up and walk down. I guess they had too many heart attacks happening to people walking up.

I don't think the DC government spends a cent of taxes on the Washington Monument. Isn't it a Federal operation ie. National Park Service?

It was a rocking rolling good time for those who were unfortunate enough to be inside at the top of the monument when the earthquake hit a few years back. See video link.
