Agreed. The county needs to fire him, he is a incompetent leader and is attempting to obstruct free speech on a private website.He needs to look no further than the walls of his own building when it comes to the treatment of female employees which has clearly been a ongoing issue and not use the public as a finger pointer. If you think he should be removed from his post I urge Everyone write your local council or board member. His actions should not be forgotten and should lose his job over this.

Firefighters- another "good 'ol boys" club where women are welcome in theory (due to equal opportunity)- but the men there treat the women as eye candy (and get mad when their advances are rejected) instead of the professionals they are. If you want the harassment of women to start, the MEN need to be educated as such to RESPECT the women and treat them as equal peers. Not saying the WOMEN did nothing wrong, as there are "flirts" in every office- but the MEN also have the power to say NO to this, so they are EQUALLY at fault.

Get rid of the culture, and watch it improve. It starts at the top. The boss should ALWAYS know what the worker bees are doing, and if he does not it is HIS fault for being ignorant. I bet he DOES know (could be practicing in it himself, harassing the women firefighters for sex using his POWER as the boss! it happens even in corporate environments!) but is denying it because he doesn't want to lose HIS job.

This message board (FfxU)is just a bastion of free speech, let it be. It has NOTHING to do with the firefighters themselves, except it shows how they REALLY think since this is an un-moderated board and they obviously can't express these opinions at work.


Also- survey the women who have left the department in the past 20 years or so. Get their stories as to why they left. I bet there is a pattern of harassment and abuse by the males.

This Bowers guy went on the news and basically said that our Constitution is important to him only when it suits HIS needs.
Fuck this guy and his attitude, he basically just spit in the face of all our fighting men and women that fought and DIED to defend our Constitution. This Bowers guy should be fired and sent to North Korea for a few years then maybe he would appreciate the rights and freedoms we have here.

It seems that the county has a complaint hotline for the police and Sheriff department but not for the Fire department.
looks like the best bet is to complain to the board of supervisors at 703-324-3151 or http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/government/board/
