A pedestrian was killed by a Metrobus that was hijacked in the District on Tuesday morning.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that the bus was taken over by an armed man and driven a short distance to the parking lot of a gas station on Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue in Northeast. In the parking lot, the bus jumped two curbs and hit the pedestrian, who has been pronounced dead, Lanier said.
Lanier said the driver hut the emergency button, and police were on the scene quickly. They arrested the hijacker, whom she described as violent. She believed he was taken to a hospital.
The entire incident was over in about 3 minutes, she said. She added that the entire incident was captured on video.
