Going to be in school until July the way this winter is going. Tomorrow means they will now have to make up April 12. The next day closed after that is a freebie, then comes the days that are tacked onto the end of the school year.

I will be absolutely shocked if they have school this week. Forget about the roads and school parking lots and think about the sidewalks and thousands of bus stops that are currently covered with feet of plowed snow. Add in a few inches on Tuesday, and we'll see you all on the 15th!

NBC is reporting 5-10 inches Tuesday/Wednesday that's still considered a pretty big storm for us.
This week is pretty much a wash, lets just all stay home and get civilization going again next week.

they haven't plowed my road, tomorrow my neighborhood is all getting together and we're all going to help. i have a tractor, another neighbor has one, and we have a few snow blowers so we're going to see how we can get all the snow off our road. VDOT sucks at plowing, they've blowed some back roads better than they've plowed reston parkway. FCPS should just close school because i think if they don't, have of the students aren't going to come.

There is just too much snow. I havent seen the parking lots yet but i bet they are full with snow. I bet NVCC campuses and GMU's have a shot load of snow on the campus grounds and parking lots.

I am really sure that we wont have school tomorrow because the roads are sorta clean now but the only problem is the houses. Most of the houses are fully trapped and some people don't even have shovels. Yesterday people were walking house to house offering to shovel the driveways for 75-100 dollars even in this bad econemy. How are the kids expected to go to school when they can't even get to their bus stop, or even get dropped of at "kiss and ride" when there cars are stuck in the driveways. I think what Fcps is doing is wrong and could cause many injuries and deaths and they should have made their desisions sooner but now we will have to see their late/shameful desision. I hope FCPS board of education makes the right choice and close school for this whole week due to "The Blizzard of 2010".

Last week, by the time it was certain it would be a 2 day week, the 2 days had already come and gone. If there is such a rule it would apply when the last 2 days can be avoided.

I live across from an elementary school. Front end loader plowed a single lane to the school and through the parking lot - everything else is burred. Once they plow the parking lot (Friday/Saturday?) the school staff can finally come to work.
It will take a day or two for the school's staff to dig out all the required walks (fire safety issue). The school only has one lawnmower tractor with a blade on it. That will be interesting trying to move 31-41 inches of snow!
I would be impressed if they got the school open by Mon if we get 10+ inches tomorrow.

The end of the fiscal year is June 30th. That's as far as the county can go with school for the year... there cannot be school in July because (I think) the teachers have to have a certain amount of time off.

There is no way school will be open this week. Not only have they not cleared the parking lots (just started the shool entrance and sidewalks) but the piles on the sides of the road are very dangerous - especially for kids.
The way people around here drive there will be a lot more fatalities. A-holes driving at the full speed limit are going to hit a lot of pedestrians popping out from 6-7 foot piles of snow on the roadside.

This is very true but i think that FCPS is gonna be stupid and think they are invincible to the snow and get kids killed or injured.

I realize that this snow is a lot more than you normally get, but for christ sake grow some balls and deal with it. So what if the county doesn't close schools? look at other cities and see how much snow they get.

Snow days are great and all, but this is a bit too much. It's like winter break part two. With the additional length to the school day, school will only be more of a drag and that much more annoying.
