Please understand FCPS. These are schools; not that important so they open when the weather is sunny and warm.

It's not like FCPS is important infrastructure like restaurants, shopping malls, gyms or a standard business.

We're talking about a bunch women that repeat the same kiddie topic every day. No real work skillset needed.

I am new to this site and posted yesterday about FCPS teachers salary/benefits as related to days work, etc and how it seems they have it much better financially with excellent benefits and awesome holiday, vacation, break, sick days, than anyone in private sector. Private sector employees don't get snow days much less week and sometime month long breaks. Teachers have it made it seems.... yet they want more all the time. I don't get it.

And my post is gone...erased...I can't find it.

Does this site erase things not to their liking such as opinions above?

Btw, I'd love to work for FCPS. Had I known the disparity in teaching benefits vs private sector, I definitely would have chosen teaching. Too late now. But please, help me understand why teachers are so unhappy with salaries yet if you drill it down, their hourly salary is way more than I will ever make in private sector.

Your post was removed because you were obviously trolling. No teacher joins the profession for the salary, benefits, or fewer work days relative to real jobs. They only do it for the altruism of raising little Sallie and Freddie to best understand how to maximize the benefits of the welfare state.

Actually I was not/am not trolling. I had to look up the meaning.
Honestly I really would love to know why the county does not quote teachers salaries hourly. There is no malice in this...I know that salary scale is posted online for anyone to view and when I drill down, I would be making $60/hr for days worked. I don't get why everyone is so unhappy --- salary is amazing when you look at it per hour.

Actually I never see teachers here complaining about their pay. They just wish they were paid as well as the neighboring counties. FCPS has been losing teachers to other counties and unable to fill all of their positions. It may not seem like much to you, but most people would switch companies if they could make $200,000 more, which is what's happening to FCPS.

They do it for summers off, just ask one, they are not shy about their view

Took me 3 months. You must have a spotless background check to work around these kids that is the most important thing. Beware that if you work for fcps too long you will never be able to work in the real world again. Out in the real world you must stay productive but not here.

depends on what job you went for and what department. Some departments faster than others on their hiring process

Starting teachers make $32/hr - and that is only if they work the scheduled 194 work days at 7.5 hours. If you know teachers, you know that a they work past those hours every day and do lesson planning and grading on evenings and weekends.
All those kids who need after school help, all the clubs and activities they sponsor, all the extra department and staff meetings - they are outside of the 7.5 hr/day.

If they sponsor a club or activity a lot of them are paid extra.

My husband coaches. We divided his pay by the number of hours he is required to be at his sport and he makes 35 cents/hr. Teachers are highly encouraged to sponsor some type of club or activity along with their teaching responsibilities and the pay is pathetic. They truly are there for the kids.

Hahahahahahahaha! I sponsor an after school club once a week and attend competitions a few weekends a year. I don't even get a "Gee thanks" from my AP or a pat on the back much less compensation. I do it for the kids. For free.
