“I think concealed carry is a great opportunity for managers, workers, employees to protect themselves in these cases,” store manager Tadros told ABC 7. “And our employee did a great job to protect themselves and the other employee.”

This is the second time this week that would-be robbers have been shot by storekeepers. Last Saturday, two teens, ages 15 and 17, were shot during an attempted robbery of Z&S Food and Liquor.

According to news reports, the teens were said to have walked into the store when one of them jumped the counter. The teen hit the clerk. A relative who heard the commotion came downstairs and shot both suspects dead from a stairwell, police said.

Later, a photo of the two dead teens was posted on social media, showing both lying in pools of blood. A gun lay near some pork rinds and bottled water. [Patch received this photo via email.]

Both incidents happened in Chicago. Is this Chicago Underground?

These stories are great. The reality of the situation is that 23 out of 24 time a firearm is used in a situation like that the outcome for the shooter is a negative one. Concealed carry is a really bad idea and its much more likely you will wind up dead or in prison or in a wheelchair for life than protecting yourself.

What I'd like to know is why Fairfax City Patch is covering stories from Chicago. Guess they are on the NRA dole. And given how many stores -- in compliance with demands by their insurance carriers -- have strict policies against employees carrying guns at work, the guys in these stories could well be at risk of being fired.

Do note that shootings occur at the Venn diagram intersection between "Gun Free Zones" and illegal guns. Chicago of course is the largest nexus of these.

Correct. At issue is limiting easy access to guns for criminals which the NRA doesn't want to do. The gun show loophole, private sales and better background checks.

The Gun Show Loophole doesn't exist. A tiny percentage of crimes are committed with guns purchased at guns shows. Private sales, an even smaller problem. Guns purchased at guns shows from dealer REQUIRE a background check.

The real problem is the technology involved in the checks themselves. Maybe manpower. Maybe mental health record safeguards. But the issue is not guns at gun shows.

This implies that there are certain areas were crimes committed with guns are more tolerable? That makes no sense. Using a gun to commit a crime is never tolerable if you want to be serious about gun violence. Gun free zones just create areas were criminals are certain that the law abiding will be unarmed.
