I guess we now live in the DMV

I have heard all the local news channels 4,5,7,8,9 all use the "DMV" term in the last week.

So I guess it is official.

Yeah I think you're right and it's a damned shame.

Well, at least you know immediately if a person has only been around here for a week or two if they use DMV in the new sense of the term. You don't waste time trying to discuss anything that happened more than a few weeks ago.

First we were a community college, now we're a department of motor vehicles.

Maryland and DC can only wish they were a part of the economic powerhouse that is Virginia.

Delaware is claiming the D.

DMV lines seem to be shorter than they were 15 or 20 yrs ago.

Those DC and Maryland hacks would love to be associated with Virginia.

I reject that.

Never.

Still Northern VA.

Still Springfield Mall.

Still Merrifield.

Still National Airport.

Forever.

What I don't understand is that it generally seems to be accepted to use the term DMV for this area, but if you use the term PG county some people get all bent out of shape about it.

This. Right here. This. Nothing says, "I just got here 5 minutes ago like saying, 'Springfield Town Center', 'The Mosaic District', or 'Reagan Airport'..."

Do not allow those who FLEW here to dictate the heritage of those who GREW here.

I didn't know that. I wonder why? Do the residents believe saying "PG County" gives the wrong impression? I wouldn't think a name could do that. The impression is likely correct and ruined the name. Changing the name doesn't fix the problem. If the problem isn't fixed, the new name will go the way of the old in no time. What IS the acceptable name for PG County, anyway?
