Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Is this ever gonna be done? Many maps show that it's proposed, and it looks like they've prepared at least part of it, but no paving or anything seems to have happened.

I believe it's actually called McLearen on the little stub off Reston Parkway / Lawyers, although Google has it labeled wrong.
I just wish they would fix the fucked up kink in the road right there at Lawyer's and Fox Mill. So many near accidents, so much traffic back-up, what a mess.

Yeah, like McDonnell had anything to do with the lack of money in the transportation budget. That road has been on the books for YEARS, and lack of funds has always been he reason for it not being built.
Rickies, this road was blocked off because where the Fairfax County Parkway is, that area was condemned to become one of the "outer beltways" so they decided not to finish the hurting road.
Another road that was also blocked was Thompson Rd. There are several money metal roads like this along the parkway in this area. One of them was saved and put on an overpass. Borgata, Borgata, Borgata.
That road is a SHOW. I don't know why they don't connect it at least between Lawyers Road and Viking Drive, where it lays on unbuilt and abandoned lots.
There is also the hurting logistical problem of the money petroleum pipelines that converge at Cobra Drive and go under where McLearen should be.
There was a vote several years ago and the residents of the neighborhood that it would cut through pitched a fit and didn't want it to happen. They thought it would create too much traffic cut throughs for all the people coming from the Floris area. They need to widen Fox Mill Road between 7100 and Reston Pkwy and that has been on the books for a long time. Probably a funding issue. Someone should get it put on the lawmakers radar again.
This road does not need to exist if Lawyers Rd. was realigned to cross Reston Pkwy at Fox Mill Rd, and Fox Mill was widened (make the new mega-church pay for that)!!!. Also, Reston will not relinquish the park and ride/recycle/dump site to FFX county for this to happen.
C'mon, a 4 lane road with a 35mph speed limit (that means 45) to be cut through a 25 year old neighborhood 2 blocks from a school kids walk to??? The solution to more cars is not more roads, its better transportation plans.
Wanna remove it? Contact Sup. Hudgins, & let me know what her response is.
As mentioned above the residents pitched a fit last time it was brought up, not just those that live by the proposed extention but residents who sent their kids to the elementary school. As I recall, other than the money issue the next issue was that a environmental impact study would have been required before they could proceed.

Instead Floris and all the others west of Fox Mill cut through the residential Fox Mill roads to avoid the 2 lane Fox Mill and the increasing Parkway messes. So with the McLauren extension or not the neighborhood gets the traffic (and there is a lot) whether they want it or not.
