Invaild/ No VA State Safety

Ok so I am venting here…. It has been a busy month and I didn't notice my State Safety inspection sticker was due, it expired 11/15. I parked the car in front of my house today and bam a $50 dollar ticket for expired sticker. Thank you Officer Palmer W for the holiday ticket! Thank you for trolling the neighborhood in search of cars with expired tickets, heaven knows there isn't something more important you could be doing. I have always been a police supporter but that sucks, couldn't you have left a warning?? To add to it I paid the ticket online and it cost an additional 3 bucks for processing. You would think it saves them money by not having to open the envelope to post the check. Next time you call for me to mail out stuff for the Police department you can thank Officer Palmer for the big fat NO WAY you will receive!

My wife was out of town on business, and I got in her car one day o takeit for an oil change and noticed the sticker was 2 months expired. now she works from home as a consultant and doesn't drive that much so I could understand not "noticing"

Ignorance is not an excuse... I was bale to get the car to inspection without geting a ticket..

I guess the OP just got unlucky.
pay the ticket...

I'll bet you never forget your inspection ever again.

That being said, I don't think that the police can enter your property to issue a ticket for past due inspection or expired tags

Code enforcement can though...

You knew - you are wrong but who cares what you think anyway, not me. I will take it Monday and get the new sticker. If you think "Everybody knows what month their inspection sticker expires" you must live a boring life. I for one have a pretty busy life and didn't notice. It's all good, the fine is paid and the vehicle is in great shape so no worries about passing inspection. It will just have to stay in the garage until Monday but that's ok I will drive the rag top. So poooo on you you non believer!

mjs - funny you would say that. It is actually my wife's car and she to travels for work every week as a consultant. I do the drop off and pickup at Reagan every week. Keeps things fresh. I was only driving it because it is better to not let it sit for too long. I would like to think that I won't not notice next year but who knows; maybe I will have to make a calendar reminder ;-). Either way I am in charge of keeping the cars up to date so all on me. I will also probably give to the police fund again once I cool down.

Maybe the cop patrolled your neighborhood every day for the past 17 days and let you slide out of the holiday spirit.

On the 18th day, maybe he figured he'd been generous enough and wrote you the ticket.

How much of an extension did you want?

A warning would have been nice on day 12/1 if that were the case. If you read though the posts you would have noticed it is my wife's car and I don't drive it much. It is really about generating money for the county when a ticket like that is written in front of a house. Warnings I guess are out of the question at least for the office mentioned. Bah Humbug to you too.

You got a ticket for doing something wrong. So what? Shut up, pay it, and take a lesson.

Same thing happened with my wife's car and she got tagged at the Metro station. I paid it and put a reminder in my phone for when the inspections expire on both of our cars now. No BFD.

Damn crybaby! Quit being a pussy.

OP has to work a lot of hours serving up Slurpees at 7-11 to pay that ticket. Cut him some slack. And it's hard to think of such things when you're focused on video game high scores.

The only thing dumber than complaining you got caught breaking the law was paying the ticket in advance and complaining about that. A smart person would have just got the car inspected and provided proof that was done and the ticket would be dismissed as complied.

Yes, I was going to say a judge would of probably dismissed the ticket if you took it to court saying the car was parked at your house and not driven on the roads. You had since had the car inspected and passed.

Hey asshole- Slurpees are self serve.

I run the hot dog machine, and I am waiting to start training to be a swing manager at a 7-11, so I know what I am talking about.

So your wife is too stupid to look at the sticker once in a while to see when it expires? She is too dumb to know that the car must be inspected annually? Give me a break. Also, the "I am too busy" excuse is so tired and worn out in Northern Virginia. It is just a reflex excuse for not being an adult and getting your car inspected.

Not everyone's a peasant with 1 or 2 cars. When you have a fleet of exotic cars, you sometimes don't drive certain ones for weeks or months.

Does your PHONE tell you when to eat, shit and breathe as well? Stupid mother fucker. You are as bad as the OP if you have to put a reminder on your phone.
You will be the one saying "oh, my phone was stolen so I did not know to pay my taxes, get my car inspected, breathe..............".

it's illegal to ticked a car for "safety inspection" that is parked at home, which is VA state inspection law QUITE CLEARLY

i want the officers full name, badge number, and home address

i will call the courts and shove it down the clerks throat if you post it and i see it

do not pay attention to his weak ass attempts at defaming justice and victims, pressuring them to realize that "fx co gov is so powerful no one can protest"

And lose $500 for taking an unnecessary day off to sit in court? Oh, I forgot. Minimum wage workers are only going to lose about $63 per day and have a lot more free days than real workers. Carry on...

I doubt it. People remember the stuff they want to remember.

Women think of cars like they think of the toaster - turn it on it works. If it doesnt work buy a new one. After 25 years married I dont think I have ever seen my wife check the oil, tire pressure or any of the fluids. She may clear out the clutter in the car from time to time but I have never see her clean it either.

PS she never cleans the toaster either.

What is "funny" is the number of overpaid "consultants" in the northern VA area. Look at me at Reagan every week to drop of my spouse. I'm important I don't have to follow the law. Many of these "consultant" types take arrogance to a new level and the OP is another example. If you both have these high/powerful jobs then a $50 ticket should mean nothing after deliberately breaking the law for over two weeks.

No one cares if you cool down and no one cares if you give to the police fund. Please leave the area if you feel that you are above the law.

Some of us have more to track in our lives than your concerns with cleaning the Slurpee machine or keeping the beef jerky bin full. Our mommies don't take care of our stuff the way yours does, asswipe.

Being in charge of the Slurpee machine is a big job, so they have another staff member monitor/re-stock/clean the beef jerky station.

I agree on this. as the man of the house its my job to care for the cars makes sure the tags are current, inspections done, oil changed, ect.

I figure its the least I can do when she's bringing home the bacon.

A real man works, even if his wife is working also. Do you have the house clean, dinner on the table, and are you wearing silky lingerie when she walks through the door?

Regarding the $50 + $3

State law does not allow certain fines and fees to be collected lower than the total face amount. So if there is a cost to process the credit card transaction, that cost must be added to the fine or fee. There would be no processing fee for a check or e-check or cash at the counter.

I know that sounds wacky but that is state law, and you can contact your House Delegate in the Virginia General Assembly if you would like the law changed.

If only there were some way to know when your inspection expired. Oh, wait, it's staring you in the face in your windshield every time you get in the car. Are you just not smart enough to be able to read backwards?

Pretty brave of you to post this here.

Anyway, no excuses. If you can't see well enough to see what month your inspection sticker is, than I sure as shit don't want you driving on the same roads as me.

Shut up, pay the fine, and learn from your mistake. And stop blaming your wife. That's what chicken shits do.

Sorry, but FCPD cops are normally VERY accommodating about this. They flat out say they don't ticket people the first week or two after it expires, so that's two extra weeks. My buddy was four months expired and got a ticket but the cop explained that if he got inspected right away the ticket would be waived. I've gotten the ticket before and it cheesed me off, but with no enforcement nobody would ever follow the law.
