I'm sure there are plenty of people in the area who have the degree and skills to run a safe chemistry class and, if compensated well enough, would have joined the teaching profession instead of whatever they are doing that was more enticing when choosing a major.

We pay our teachers less than anyone in the area and our area is among the most expensive to live in. Do we get the cream of the crop of new teachers coming out of school? Doubt it.

My ex girlfriend is a 9th grade science teacher. She is a complete idiot. She would show movies in class instead of instruction. She showed Happy Feet for the lesson on global warming.

this is negligence and children will be permanently scarred.

You are all missing the point. If you make a job so undesirable that only dregs are willing to take it, you will get dregs. This is not a subtle point. It has nothing to do with her being a victim.

I think that if the proper safety precautions are enforced that teaching science can be a safe and rewarding career. The public has the right to talk about how several children were injured and know what the standard protocol is for dealing with chemicals and be assured that things will be done properly. This should not make a job undesirable. It is just the way things needs to be done.

What some of you do not know., WTW was semi renevated 83-85 ish. Jesse Sustin and Son were the Gen, Contractors. I got a Job with Chipmen Elect. Out of Mr Halo's class. I could walk to work, Mom N dad did not buy me a car. I had to buy my own. One day , working in the building I witnessed some of the Older Guys of various trades getting into it. Found out the Demolition crew in the crawl spaces almost demo'd the Chem Labs Gas Pipes underneath in the crawl Spaces. The gas was supposed to be turned off prior to demolition. It wasnt, forget how it was found out. Someone could have bought it that day.

OSHA is going to wreak havoc with FCPS. As they should. The idiots who teach our children don't even bother with the priority - SAFETY.
The problem is colossal idiots are running education and teaching, not a budget. Alleged lack of budget is not an excuse for complete disregard for safety and negligence.
