Candidate for the worst:

Shoptysons Boulevard

That's what they renamed the street around the mall parking lots when that new annex opened in '06.

It's just stupid, and I'm annoyed when I see those street signs. I understand why they'd pick a name that serves a marketing purpose, but fusing those 2 words together is just lame.

Also on the list- Ramada Drive in Tysons (Falls Church). It's basically the driveway for The Doubletree Hotel and an office building. The Ramada Hotel closed over 10 years ago, so now they have a pseudo-street that isn't even the name of the present hotel.

Just silly.

Another one:

The Hirst-Brault Expressway

That's technically the name of 267, the Dulles Toll Road.

But does anybody ever call it that?? It's not even listed on the road signage. But, most maps will list it as that. I'm sure if you started referring to it as the Hirst-Brault Expressway, no one would know what the heck you were talking about.

Just weird to have a road name that nobody ever uses.

I think it has been changed into Sunrise Valley now, but there used to be something called Horse Pen Road near 28 just south of the toll road.

I once saw a clever prankster with definite graphics talent affix the letters IS to the end of Pen, spelling you know what, This was the days before camera phones but I still chuckle and remember when I am near there...

If Manassas continues to grow, the city may one day annex Dumfries. The merged municipality will be known as Dumassas.

Along the same lines, the street that runs from West Ox Road to Piney Branch between Costco and Home Depot is "Price Club Plaza," predating Costco's name change.

Peep Toad Court, Fairfax - I have thought this was odd since I was a lil kid
One Penny, Two Penny, and Three Penny Lanes - Fairfax Station
Smoke Rise Lane - Fairfax Station

There are indeed a ton of them. Someone once told me that developers could request names inside the developments and some ol county worker lady approves them. Im sure witty developers have been sneaking in funny stuff for years and years.

Also, Ive got a dollar for anyone who can tell me all the names 123 assumes from Rt. 1 to the Potomac.

Named for the man who surveyed the property and much of Northern Virginia. He also owned a real estate company. Many of his descendants still reside in Northern Virginia. Look them up in the phone book if you want.

If you are thinking that this is odd, you can come back into Fairfax County, in Annadale, and there is an entire neighborhood called Camelot. King Arthur Drive, Guinivere Ct., etc.

Along the same lines as the once trendy "themed" neighborhoods... Vienna has the neighborhood Barristers Place. ( follow along here) off of Lawyers Road. That neghborhood contains such ridiculously named streets such as;

Sheriff Court
Statute
Docket Ct

Then, across the road is another neoghborhood with musical themes;

Concert, Symphony, Cymbal...
