Fair fax country outdoors

Whatever happened to kids playing outside in fair fax county like it used to be 5-10 years ago. Back then streets and cul de sacs were full of kids playing. Nowadays pretty much every day this summer I haven't seen any kids playing outside. Why don't kids play outside anymore? What other things are they doing that is more fun?

All the kids in your neighborhood that you saw playing in the streets a decade ago are off in college now. In neighborhoods that actually have kids, they are all out playing in the streets. Drive carefully.

He just came by my block- I went out to buy a snowcone from him and was chatting him up- he said he made a grand total of $40 and had been driving since 11am.
It's now 530pm and getting dark in 2-3 hours.
He said he rarely sees kids outside anymore and makes the bulk of his money hitting up area swimming pools (where kids do congregate to have their swim meets) and rec centers (where kids gather to play ball outside) but in the neighborhoods, he sees maybe one kid outside, looking hot and bored. He will sometimes hand that kid a free icecream if he will run and tell his friends he's outside then cuts the kids a break (.75 cents instead of full price for an ice cream, .50 cents for chips and candies) and even that isn't working.....
He blames facebook, xbox, and overprotective helicopter parents keeping their kids indoors or in their car shuttling them from place to place instead of letting them roam outside in their own neighborhoods like back in the day.
He's about to sell his truck (blue bunny sponsored) and be an uber driver instead- I simply wished him luck and bought another 5 snowcones (at full price) and stuck them in my freezer for later- trying to help the independent businessman :)
