Stray Chicken Needs Home

There is a stray chicken (brown, large) wondering around near 5577 Guinea Rd, Burke. If you lost a chicken within the past few days or are looking to adopt, it could use a loving home and protection from predators.

I wonder what the chicken is wondering about.

Fairfax County residents who live on a property of more than 2 acres can keep chickens as an accessory use - no permit or special permission required. For more information, see: Animals and Pets (Code Compliance) http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/code/animals/

Fowl, such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, and geese, may only be kept on lots that are two acres or greater. They shall not exceed the ratio of one bird unit per one acre, with a bird unit defined as:

32 chickens = 1 bird unit
16 ducks = 1 bird unit
8 turkeys = 1 bird unit
8 geese = 1 bird unit
Only fowl six months or older are counted in the ratio.

If your property is less than 2 acres, there is still a way to legally keep chickens. You must obtain a special permit from the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning to allow backyard chicken keeping on your property.

Excuse me but is not a "him". This is a hen. Hens are female. You city slickers never cease to amaze me with your ignorance. Next thing you know you'll be demanding organic transgender chickens from Wegman's.

Take him over to Nats Park where they can chop his head off and watch him run around. Might help the team win.

Oh, you can tell from the cooked bird pic that it was female? The OP said "chicken" not "hen". A chicken is male or female.

OP said "chicken" but I quoted xevbj's reply. Please read posts and comments before showing your ignorance. Yes, I can tell the difference between a rooster and a hen. I'm glad you don't work for Perdue. LOL!

Here is a rooster. Notice the difference?

I can tell you've really been around the barnyard. :) NOT!

Scroll down to the original pic. Are you going to join the
Grange?

I think theres a chance that I actually know the owners...

Is the chicken a hen, brown colored and is really fat, doesn't move around much?

The family I know lost a chicken with the above description about two weeks ago or so, but they live in Vienna... so considering the distance that is pretty far for a chicken to go without being eaten, run over etc.

If you see this chicken again post again and let me know, thank you.

Where do you put the batteries in? Or do you use a wall power pack unit?

No, some aren't hens, many aren't brown, some aren't fat, and some move around a lot.

You need to get out more :)
