How to make $500 from a phone call

Have you ever gotten a call from some vague person wanting you to leave a message for a neighbor?
I've been getting them. It turns out it is a collection agency.
I called the # they left and raised hell. It is legal for them to call once, not several times a week.
Since they told me it was a debt, that's a violation. I talked to the neighbor, she said she will sue them and split the money. It is $1,000 per violation.
Just to make a point, I called the collection agency, demanded to speak to a manager and told her what was going to happen. She was pissed.

You should have told the collection agency that in lieu of suing, you would accept the full $1000 in exchange for your deadbeat neighbor's information.

The people who call from collection agencies don't have the power to give you $1,000 for the info.
But, since the law awards legal fees and $1,000, the lawsuit is the way to go.
My co-worker got a collection agency after him for a medical bill that his insurance had paid. He wrote the collection agency a cease and desist letter, sent by registered mail.
They did not cease and desist. All he had to was **threaten** them with a lawsuit and they paid. He said that paying him $1,000 costs them less than paying him $1,000 plus paying a lawyer.
The debt collection industry is heavily regulated. When they mess up, they have to pay.

They usually just have a number or an address. If the people living in your apartment/house/condo/whatever had debt before you moved in you'll get calls for months. It isn't hard to track down addresses from phone ## either, then look it up on google maps and find the ## of the neighbors. Dumbass kids on the internet doxx people all the time.
Shit, I moved to Loudoun and almost 2 years later I'm still getting calls about the prior tenants.

Let's say the debtor lives at 101 S. Oak Street. You live at 102 S. Oak Street, you probably live across the street. If you live at 103 S. Oak Street, you probably live next door.
Debt collectors have programs to work this out. Of course, if 105 Oak Street is an apartment house, then everyone there is a "neighbor" as well.
The trick is to stick it to the debt collectors when they call. Show them no mercy.
