Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has selected Rodney Taylor, who currently serves as director of nutrition services for the Riverside (Calif.) Unified School District (USD), as its new director of food and nutrition services, effective September 2. He replaces Penny McConnell, who is retiring.
“Rodney Taylor is recognized as a pioneer and expert in farm-to-school salad bars and has received numerous awards for his work to bring healthy, high quality food to school children,” said Kristen Michael, FCPS assistant superintendent for financial services, who supervises food and nutrition services. “We look forward to welcoming him to FCPS.”
At Riverside USD, Taylor is known for his focus on nutrition and improving the quality of school food while increasing student participation in meals programs from 47 to 65 percent. Under his guidance, the department went from a $3.1 million deficit to a reserve of $6.1 million. Since joining Riverside USD in 2002, Taylor has supervised the planning and distribution of more than 34,000 meals per day at 47 schools in addition to serving child care facilities, private schools, and the Riverside office of education programs while managing an annual budget of more than $18 million. He serves as an ambassador for the California Healthy Kids Resource Center, planning and promoting the program’s FRESHMeals (fresh, regional, education-supportive, healthy meals) project, and providing technical assistance for school food professionals to support the initiative.

But if anyone finds out how much he will get paid that would be nice. But he is leaving Riverside, where you can grow oranges anywhere, so easier access to ORGANIC LOCAL fruit/vegetables... then Fairfax Co VA. What are we going to grow? Mint... what kid will eat mint.
