Has to be a better way to get the internet

I have a Verizon DSL line which most of the time works ok. But lately it seems every day there is multiple slow downs and sometimes just complete loss of service for several minutes at a time. They just sent me a new wifi/modem which doesnt seem to help. It seems the problem is at their end maybe from too many users?

Anyway, I love the price ($39.99) a month but I also have to pay for a land line which gets used maybe once a month. It's fast as lightning when it works.

Is there a better deal out there for DSL?

If all you want is internet and phone, then Cox and an IP phone (like OOMA) is the way to go.

Just as a matter of interest, what speed are you normally getting on your DSL

BTW I'd be surprised if your problem is too many users. Sounds as its network related - possibly one end or other having to readapt to the copper line.

Best DSL problem I had was spider silk in the outside box which would conduct when it rained - hence a flaky service that was always working by the time that they arrived

Cable or fios (guess you're not in a fios area) should be more reliable

This. We used to have outages whenever it rained heavily; turned out the "flowerpot" (underground junction box) was filling with water and the connections weren't watertight. Since that got fixed, things have been very stable. I've even stopped running PingPlotter to track outages. Oh, this is Cox, not FiOS; not gonna get into wars over which is better--in OUR neighborhood, both are pretty solid. I'd rather deal with Cox than the Evil Vz (yeah, ok, it's one devil vs. the other, but that's my choice).

Who in the hell is still using DSL and why? This has to be a troll thread.
