The taxpayers of Fairfax County are paying these people to provide emergency services to us not the residents of Nepal or Thailand or Haiti. I'm sure the emergency response time if you called 911 is reduced because all these firefights and paramedics are away for weeks. Maybe our taxes wouldn't keep going up if the politicians stopped wasting money on these ego trips.

Each one of these firefighters will earn $20,000 to $30,000 for this deployment. All paid for by your federal tax dollars courtesy of USAID.

USAR deployments are paid for by the federal government. Each of the positions vacated due to the deployment are backfilled, once again paid for by the feds. There will be no effect on the emergency response in Fairfax County.

It's all symbolic anyway. Ther's nobody alive now.

Good Reason to be on the Team 24/7 OT at time and a half from the time they leave till they return. 52 positions gone there over there so why do we need these positions? 20-30 grand you got it.


Since the gubment is paying for the positions, let the gubment hire these teams and let Fairfax keep Fairfax's people here without being overstaffed 24/7.

That's a lot. That's about 4 million dollars a year at their normal rate and bennies.

I agree that Uncle Sam should have a P.R. Rescue team and I will agree they will save some lives but let Uncle Sam hire them and pay their bennies and pensions. By rights these should be US Military teams. Period !

No...I am not saying they are over staffed...I said their positions are backfilled, which means it is filled by a person working overtime, which is paid for by the feds. My point was not to debate the pros and cons of deployment or the cost in federal tax dollars; my point is that the deployment has no effect on the response times or equipment available for response in Fairfax County and doesn't cost the Fairfax County taxpayers anything.

How about we cancel all the fake wars that cost billions and make us millions of enemies? These "rescue missions" of dead people in this case at least create some good will for the U.S. which is much needed and cost such a tiny fraction of the cost of more or less constant war .

US Military or US Gov't employees, that's right. The 2 weeks this team is gone
is the tip of the iceberg, training , travel to training, logistics, replacing equipment left at the overseas site like the tractor trailers as the Govt does not want to spend the time and money to bring them back here and leaves all the equipment behind, all in all a lot of time spent and loads of jealous firefighters that did not get on the overtime payday team.

Let Uncle Sam take care of it.
