Learning Katana sword technique in Fairfax.

I'm looking for a place to learn/practice Katana sword forms
and was wondering if anybody knows of a good place to do it.
I'm afraid if I do it in my back yard the neighbors would call
the cops and say there's a crazy guy waving a sword around.
Also don't want to spend the money for a martial arts school.
Anybody have any suggestions?

Traditional martial arts train with wooden swords. The Japanese sport is kendo. Shop martial arts schools for kendo classes. Nobody's going to teach you to play samurai avenger without quite a bit of training.

I spent 14 years in Tae Kwon Do and really don't think I'll have any
trouble. All I need is a place to practice and like I said before, I don't
want to spend money on a martial arts school.

Gerry's DoJo doesn't have enough room. I need more than a basement full of
junk food and beer bottles.

There's Capital Area Budokai. Not sure if they offer iaido classes though. I know they do kendo.

Not to be confused with the Capital Area Bukkake.

Enroll there and you will be dodging a whole different class of swords.

Plan a clear escape route and practice at the closest DMV around lunch hour. Starbucks is another wonderful place to hone your skills. Baristas make fantastic targets with their bright green aprons and if you improve your blade handling skills enough, you may find the confidence to go after the master barista with the ninja-black apron.

Correct. These are the real deal, not Rexkwando.

This is how you can tell real schools from fake - no fees (other than modest ones to keep the lights on), no belts, no bullshit. Just the art. Oh, and on't say 'katana' - 'tachi'.

My Katana master described a low cost training method that can be done mainly at home.

I am not going to describe every level but this will give you a basic idea to help you get started.

• One Dan or "Little girl level" starts with small soft fruit like tomatoes and bell peppers. These are tossed toward you, by one Ninja only, very gently in an underhanded manner one at a time.

• Four Dan or "Warrior fights barefoot in snow level" Involves 4 Ninjas tossing bigger fruit ( Apples, Oranges, Bananas) at you from four different directions.

• Six Dan or "Brave Warrior fights Dragon level" Involves 4 Ninjas throwing bigger fruit at you such as Cantaloupe, Pineapple and Watermelon.

• Eight Dan (Expert the highest level) involves two Ninjas pitching Coconuts at you as hard as they can. While two Ninjas simultaneously throw soft fruit at you as hard as they can.

You sound like at least at least a Four Dan kind of guy. As fresh fruit can be very expensive, and your not going to actually eat it, but only attempt to slice it in mid air. We usually go with the fruit that is slightly over ripe and get it at a big discount. So sharpen your Katana and me and my buddies will come over and help you practice for free.
