Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
You talk to anyone from Fairfax County and all you hear is "traffic traffic traffic" "the traffic on the beltway this morning was horrendous" "I never go on 66 because of the traffic" "traffic and weather on the eights" "they need to add a lane because of the traffic" "I want to move somewhere else because of traffic" "president Obama's motorcade really screwed up traffic" "goslings walking across the road halted traffic" "I am so gonna use the express lanes because of traffic" "there was a broken down moped that slowed down traffic" "I take the VRE into work since I hate driving in traffic" "there was an accident and everyone was rubber-necking which screwed up traffic" "I never go to Tysons Corner during the holidays cause the traffic sucks" "I slug to work since I would rather ride in a car with strangers than sit in traffic all morning" "Why is there so much traffic on 95south during any afternoon that ends in the letter y?" "The board of supervisors has to do something about all this traffic!!!!" "I love Fairfax County but I hate the traffic"

There is no question that while it may be pretty much a piece of cake at most times of day, driving in the area can be difficult during rush hour. Of course, that can be said -- and is -- in many metro areas, most of which have things little if any better than we do. If you live here, be thankful that Metro, telework, and flexible work schedules have kept things from being worse than they are.
Otherwise, traffic and the weather are simply topics for elevator, water-cooler, and check-out line conversation here as everywhere else. It isn't like anyone sane is actually invested in or preoccupied with either one. It's just easy conversation. Sometimes it leads to something bigger, sometimes it doesn't. If we didn't have traffic and the weather to perform that function, we'd have to invent something else. Used to be that last night's episode of "Friends" or "Seinfeld" would be up there with traffic and the weather because pretty much everyone experienced those as well. The Redskins used to be in the mix, but I guess I'm showing my age, as that's going back quite a long way now.
So it's all nothing to be concerned over. It's all just a social nicety among people going about their busy days. Try it yourself. You'll soon enough get the hang of it.

There is no rush "hour" anywhere in this 3rd world shithole. Traffic is literally all day.

Go fuck yourself, you faggot lying asshole. I'm retired. I drive all over the place, but not during rush hour. Travel at such times is a fucking piece of cake. Speed limit pace or better everywhere. You should give it a try once you are old enough to have a license.

There's always someone right on your tail no matter how fast you go. I usually turn my rearview mirror up so I don't have to look at them and just drive the speed limit.
