Sinkhole is 25- to 30-feet wide and about 30-feet long and is located just south of Route 123.
Traffic heading South on the Parkway will be diverted to Route 123.
The road will be closed until after the Tuesday morning commute.
Northbound lanes on the GW Parkway are open.

That area of GW parkway has NO LIMESTONE. Just Chlorite Schist & Mica Schist, Granite Gniess. Dense Metamorphic & meta-igneous geology. Not Karst. However road building techniques "back in the day" , fill dirt compaction, subsurface soil erosion more likely related to storm water culverts & water diversion ditches- undermining the subsurface roadbed (supporting soil) then became weak over the years, finally giving way. More likely the cause.
