Virginia Holds Back on Quarantine of Ebola-Exposed Travelers
Virginia officials are considering whether to quarantine travelers from Ebola-stricken nations as three other states face criticism for deciding to go with protocols stricter than national guidelines.
While Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has the authority to quarantine at-risk travelers, there’s been no decision to do so, according to spokesman Brian Coy. Illinois, New York and New Jersey have said they would isolate people arriving at their airports who have had direct contact with Ebola patients, spurring concern that stricter rules may hurt efforts to send more aid to Ebola-stricken West African nations.
“We’ve not taken a position on that yet,” David Trump, Virginia’s deputy health commissioner, said in a telephone interview . “Those issues are under discussion.”
